We were lucky to catch up with Karli’e Whitfield recently and have shared our conversation below.
Karli’e, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
In the couple years of taking my designing passion seriously, what I believe it takes to be successful is continuously fighting everyday to be a better version of yourself than you where yesterday. Everyday is a new day to have a new mindset on how you can accomplish your goals. Trial & error, If one concept don’t work, note that and start again with the new knowledge you gained from that experience.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hello to those who came across my interview. My name is Karli’e, I’m 25 years old & I’m a fashion designer from Cincinnati, OH. My fashion brand is Hermosa Era & I specialize in custom crochet & denim fashion pieces & outfits. I always had a niche for fashion since I was a little girl. From sketches to reconstructing old fabric to make outfits for my dolls. I started designing full designs as early as 12 years old making denim designs starting off. Fast forward March of 2020 in the height of Covid I decided to expand my imagination with the prior knowledge I had for crocheting & started making crochet clothing. My crochet designs have been my favorite part of my designing journey & I have started to make my own wave when it come to crochet designs. Hermosa Era for me is expressing who you truly are in the moment & your soul will thank you. My mission with my brand is to help people feel better about themselves & expressing their true selfs when wearing my clothing. In a world where there’s a lot of copy cats, individually is rare. Enjoy what you have now & express gratitude.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
At the end of the day everything I create is straight from my soul & imagination. That’s something I take pride in & that can’t be taken away from me. I always had a imaginative mind. So for me to take that thought & make it in real life is something magical.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I feel like me staying true to myself & stepping out the “norms” of crochet clothing definitely have people looking my way & seeing what I’m going to do next. From the way I do certain stitches, colors I chosen to use, to making the shape of how a design supposed to look. In the beginning it may not make sense but the end result always out shine the doubt.
