We were lucky to catch up with Karli Roller recently and have shared our conversation below.
Karli, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So, let’s start with a hypothetical – what would you change about the educational system?
In our unique approach, we combine Montessori teaching methods with gentle parenting techniques to foster an environment where children can reach their fullest potential. Unlike any other preschool, we create a space that’s both intellectually stimulating and emotionally nurturing. Montessori’s focus on child-led learning and hands-on experiences pairs seamlessly with gentle parenting’s emphasis on understanding and empathy. This marriage of these two philosophies produces not just students who are academically advanced, but human beings who are confident, compassionate, and equipped to navigate the complexities of life. It’s an oasis of peace and development where each child’s individuality is celebrated.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Ten years ago, I began teaching children’s yoga and found my calling in nurturing young minds. My journey took me from the yoga mat to the classroom, where I worked as a preschool teacher and earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Communications. Inspired by the boundless curiosity and potential I saw in my students—and in my own three children—I decided to deepen my understanding of childhood education. I am currently enrolled in a doctoral program in Educational Leadership. These experiences propelled me to create my own preschools, which stand as living embodiments of my holistic philosophy in child development. Unlike traditional setups, our approach harmonizes the Montessori teaching style with gentle parenting techniques, providing an unparalleled environment for young minds to flourish.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
What truly helped me build a reputable name within the educational market is the personal touch we infuse into every aspect of our preschools. From the moment parents and children walk through the door, they feel like they’re a part of a larger family, not just another customer. This philosophy extends to our team as well; we invest in continuous professional development to ensure we’re offering the most enriching experience possible. Another critical factor has been reinvesting back into our schools. We’re always looking to improve—be it updating educational materials, enhancing our facilities, or refining our curriculum based on the latest research in early childhood development. Lastly, our commitment to exceptional customer service sets us apart. We actively listen to parent feedback and adapt, proving that their children’s well-being and education is our foremost concern. This blend of personalized service and constant improvement has been invaluable in building our reputation.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
Managing a team effectively and maintaining high morale comes down to several key factors. First and foremost, we ensure that our employees are well-compensated for their skills and dedication. Fair pay is a cornerstone of job satisfaction and an important way to show that we value the work they do. Beyond that, we offer benefits like paid vacation time and health coverage, because we understand that a happy, healthy employee is more engaged and productive. Additionally, we prioritize team-building activities and interactive group trainings. These not only strengthen the skill sets of our team but also foster a sense of camaraderie and shared purpose. It’s not just about making work ‘fun,’ but about creating an environment where everyone feels they’re part of something meaningful. When people feel appreciated and included, morale naturally stays high, and that positive energy permeates through every aspect of our organization.
