We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Karla Rodas. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Karla below.
Karla, appreciate you joining us today. We believe kindness is contagious and so we’d love for you to share with us and our audience about the kindest thing anyone has ever done for you?
One of kindest things anyone has ever done for me was to invite me to a yoga class. It was a simple gesture, sure, but also a profound one looking back on it. I’m sure that my former neighbor would be surprised to know that her kind invitation to a local yoga studio would have such a positive impact on my life. Before yoga, I was in survival mode, overwhelmed at times by my life as a Navy spouse and mom to our two sons. I was always on high alert, juggling several things at once, providing support to everyone else and putting myself on the back burner. Discovering yoga was a turning point for me, I found tools that I began to apply to my life. Over time, I began to embody the practices that have taught me so much.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Over the past 15 years, I’ve offered yoga in a variety of ways. For example, I’ve taught privately at client’s homes, at gyms, yoga studios and also at the Naval base and hospital. In recent years, my offerings have had to evolve. The pandemic was a time for shifts and to re-evaluate what I had been previously doing. I began to offer yoga online via Zoom. host outdoor classes again and connect with others online more. Presently, I’ve added Sound Healing to my offerings and it’s also evolved into new and interesting collaborations. The latest collaboration was with a non-profit organizing activities for parents of children with special needs. This event was hosted at Chula Vista brewery which generously offers their space to our community. I will continue to host events and offer my services to groups. I’m inspired to to connect and collaborate with my amazing local community.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I think that creating something can be challenging at times. It’s caused me to think, am I making an impact, do I continue on this path? Maya Angelou said, ” You have no idea what your legacy will be because your legacy is every life you touch.” This inspires me to continue on when I think I’m not doing enough. It’s important to keep in mind that each one of us will face all the things in life that challenge us, loss, fear, self-doubt, criticism, whatever it is, this can’t be avoided. But, when you get reassurance from someone that you directly impacted through words that you said in your yoga class or how relaxed they felt after a sound bath, then I remember, yes, keep going.
Have you ever had to pivot?
I definitely had to pivot at the start of the pandemic. I had settled into a routine, teaching a few in-person yoga classes a few times a week, offering in-person experiences with yoga and sound. In-person classes were paused or altogether non-existent. I quickly began to offer classes on Zoom and would share on Instagram and formed a Facebook group in order to keep in touch with my community. When we began to gather again, I had classes at outdoor parks and began to find ways to stay connected. It was eye-opening how I was still able to offer my classes in different ways. That’s inspired me to keep seeking new and creative ways to bring mindfulness in the form of yoga and sound healing to others.
