We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Karla Reeves a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Karla , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Almost every entrepreneur we know has considered donating a portion of their sales to an organization or cause – how did you make the decision of whether to donate? We’d love to hear the backstory if you’re open to sharing the details.
I have recently decided to donate 10% of my profits to The Black Fairy Godmother Foundation, founded by Simone Gordon, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization created to help Black and Brown marginalized families. I chose this organization because I truly believe in what the organization stands for. There are so many families that need help right now. As the cost of living rises, families are finding it tougher to make ends meet. As a black woman, I feel it’s important to help my community. Although I love everyone equally regardless of skin color, a sad reality is that all too often, people that look like me are often overlooked.

Karla , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a Soul Transformation Coach, at least that’s the title that fit at the moment! I am a Holistic Wellness practitioner. I am a Breathwork Coach, Reiki Master, Meditation Coach, Spiritual and Financial Coach, and so much more. I truly believed in empowering people to take their wellness seriously. I am passionate about helping people work through and release trauma and traumatic energy that’s stored within the body.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
My journey has not been an easy one. The reason I am so passionate about helping other release and heal from trauma is because I have gone through it personally. I know how hard it is, especially when you feel like you don’t have anyone or anywhere to turn. I know what’s it like to be at your lowest and struggle to find a way out. If I could help even one person not feel so alone then I have fulfilled my purpose here on earth.

Have you ever had to pivot?
COVID hit many people and many businesses hard. I had a bookkeeping business and many of my clients either closed their business or just could not afford to outsource their bookkeeping any longer. I was also feeling a bit burned out at this time so it really was divine timing. I pivoted my business to what it is today, by focusing more on health and wellness but keeping a small part of the financial aspect and helping people manage their finances. My new business is small and growing, but I’m confident in my ability to help others and I believe I will reach everyone that needs it.
