We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Karla Lisboa a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Karla, thanks for joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?

Since the time I was going to beauty school, my husband always had the vision and believed in me and my career as an esthetician.

After a few years working in the field and getting experience, we finally decided to make it happen. I always had a dream to move closer to the beach and we used to vacation every year at Clearwater beach. During that time, every time we came down to Clearwater/Tampa we did research on waxing places around, and we really saw the need for a top-quality hair removal salon where women can feel comfortable, not intimidated, appreciated and satisfied with the service. There wasn’t anybody offering the true authentic Brazilian Wax with minimal pain, a clean & sanitary environment and affordable prices. Women were either suffering from ingrown hair and irritated skin because of shaving or some were getting painful hair removal done at nail salons and paying overpriced services at other waxing places that were still using the old method of hair removal.

We opened Beekini Wax in 2015 and not too long after we were recognized as Tampa’s #1 place for efficient, high- quality and affordable waxing services. We started to get a lot of feedback from our clients saying how our technique is less painful than other places, and how comfortable they felt walking into a very feminine salon, where they feel comfortable getting such a personal service.

Our services are not just about removing unwanted hair, but it is about making women feel beautiful, and confident. There is nothing more satisfying than seeing a client come in scared or nervous of the process and having them come back time-and-time again.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?

I am originally from Brazil, where beauty has been refined into an art form. A country, where Brazilian women have been sharing and passing down their secrets for generations. When we started, I was the only esthetician providing our services, and now having 2 teams of estheticians and being able to teach other women my techniques so they can treat our clientele makes me feel very grateful.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?

Waxing is our passion, and our passion shows on every client that walks out of our doors.

I strongly believed that clients could say that I personally care about them. It isn’t just about removing their unwanted hairs and making money. I listen to my client’s needs as far as feeling good about their skin as well as on a personal aspect when all they need is someone to listen to their personal life struggles.

I talk to my clients; I also share my personal life struggles and that’s how we connect and build a genuine true relationship.

Also, if for any reason a client is not satisfied with the service provided, I directly reach out to them to sincerely apologize for the negative experience and also to find out ways we can improve to ensure that situation doesn’t happen again. Clients often feel appreciated, they feel that someone cares about what they have to say.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?

Google reviews helped us a lot. Make sure to ask clients to leave reviews, that brings new clients in.
