Karla, appreciate you joining us today. What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
Throughout my career, I have always aimed to build a legacy of empowerment, knowledge, and positive impact. I’ve had the privilege of mentoring and tutoring countless students, helping them unlock their potential and achieve their goals. Seeing their growth and success has been incredibly rewarding and is something I deeply cherish.
Additionally, through my latest books, ‘The Unvarnished Truth: Purpose in the Pain’ and ‘Vanquishing Monsters,: a companion workbook’ I have reached a broader audience. These works are my way of sharing valuable insights and lessons that I’ve learned, hoping to inspire and guide others even beyond the classroom. I bring attention to mental health and hope to remove the stigma surrounding mental health problems.
Ultimately, I hope to be remembered as someone who dedicated their life to uplifting others, providing guidance, and making a meaningful difference. I want people to say that I was not only a passionate educator and author but also a mentor who genuinely cared about the success and well-being of those I worked with. I am foremost a scientist having earned a doctorate degree in Biotechnology. I am passionate about education and also hold a Post graduate diploma in education. My journey into the field of education began with a profound interest in helping others achieve their potential . Early in my career, I found myself drawn to mentoring and tutoring students. I saw firsthand the transformative power of personalized guidance and the impact it can have on a student’s academic and personal growth. This experience solidified my commitment to education and inspired me to broaden my reach.
Later in life, I found myself drawn to writing. I began writing articles for a local newspaper and I found much fulfillment. I then began writing books for a diverse age group. I am the author of 8 children books and three books for adults. My latest accomplishment is my memoir, ‘The Unvarnished Truth: Purpose in the Pain’ and its companion workbook, ‘Vanquishing Monsters.’ These works reflect my dedication to uncovering deep truths and overcoming personal challenges. ‘The Unvarnished Truth’ delves into honest and often difficult topics, encouraging readers to confront and embrace reality. ‘Vanquishing Monsters’ is about facing and overcoming the metaphorical monsters in our lives, offering strategies for personal development and resilience.
My primary goal is to empower individuals through knowledge and insight. Whether it’s through direct mentorship or the written word, I aim to provide tools and perspectives that help people navigate their challenges and reach their goals.
What sets me apart in this industry is my holistic approach. I don’t just focus on academic success; I emphasize overall personal growth and well-being. I tailor my mentoring and tutoring to address the unique needs of each student, ensuring they develop not just intellectually, but emotionally and socially as well.
In my writing, I strive to offer more than just information. In fact, I am now certified in Mental Health Studies and I have now found myself in the space of mental health advocacy. One of the most challenging periods of my life was during my separation and divorce. I made the difficult decision to walk away from everything, which led to estrangement from my adult children. This was incredibly painful and brought me to the darkest place I had ever been. The emotional turmoil was overwhelming, and at my lowest point, I attempted to end my life.
However, I was given a second chance, and from that moment, I knew I had to turn my life around. It wasn’t easy, but I gradually started to rebuild. I focused on expanding my tutoring business, driven by a renewed sense of purpose. Helping students achieve their potential gave me a reason to keep going each day.
Simultaneously, I channeled my experiences into writing. My books, ‘The Unvarnished Truth’ and ‘Vanquishing Monsters,’ are not just about storytelling but are reflections of my journey through adversity. Sharing my story and insights with others has been incredibly therapeutic and rewarding.
Through hard work and determination, my tutoring business has grown significantly. I’ve also been honored to receive awards for my writing, which is a testament to the impact my books have had on readers.
