We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Karla Gutierrez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Karla below.
Karla, appreciate you joining us today. What’s the kindest thing anyone has ever done for you?
The kindest thing anyone has ever done for me is providing me with unconditional support throughout my professional career. In January 2022, I was faced with an unfortunate life circumstance in my personal life that is still ongoing. My mom was deported and this became a newfound obstacle for me. I suddenly had to take care of my siblings, including my 3 year old sister with autism. All I had ever known slipped through my fingers in a blink of an eye.
Since moving to Nail and Skin Studio, I have received a tremendous amount of support from my team and clients. My team has welcomed and accepted me. I have been transparent to an extent about my personal life because I want my clients to be aware of why I may leave for weeks to visit my mom and to build a strong, authentic esty-client relationship. I love my job because I consider myself to be a relationship-based person. I enjoy talking to my clients and they bring purpose to my life. My clients understand my current situation and remain loyal to me. I appreciate all of the love and support I’ve gotten while I continue to manage my personal life. My clients mean a lot to me and I wouldn’t be able to do what I truly love without them!
Karla, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Growing up, I was always into skincare and makeup. I knew I wanted to pursue a career within the beauty industry. Therefore, I decided to pursue school in 2019 at Pickens Technical College. After reviewing all my options, I knew I wanted to be an esthetician. I loved learning and understanding how the skin works, helping people look and feel their best, and witnessing the positive transformations within my clients. Some of the services I do include facials, full body waxing, brow/lash laminations, etc. My favorite services to provide are facials, Brazilian waxing, and lash lifts. Something special about my work is that I’m detailed and personable. My job is not only to provide the service itself but to make my clients feel comfortable, to build a relationship, and to satisfy their needs. I want my clients to feel like their best version of themselves with me and to know they always have a safe space within my esty room.
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
The most helpful advice to succeeding in the beauty industry is to keep practicing your skills. Keep pushing yourself to learn new skills. There’s so much to learn in this industry that you have to keep up.
Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
I honestly wouldn’t trade anything in the world for what I do. I love it so much. I love all my clients. I love the skills I have learned. Esthetician has made my life a lot happier. It makes me so happy to see someone relax on my spa bed. Im thankful for everything these career has done for me.
