We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Karla Clark. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Karla below.
Karla, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
Pfortea was not intended to be just a tea company. It was also going to be an online community of like-minded women who were trying to figure out their lives in their 40’s. Prior to the pandemic, my boss brewed a pot of tea every morning at work. This helped ease the stress during the day. I created my own blends and brought them work. During quarantine, I created an ecommerce website and sold my tea. My ultimate goal is to own a tea shop that brings the community together.
Karla, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
What do you do? I am the owner Pfortea Loose Leaf Tea Blends
What do you specialize in? My loose leaf tea blends are handcrafted with natural ingredients. These blends seduce your taste buds with an entanglement of flavors.
What are you known for? I’m known for creating blends that help with the common cold, digestive issues, stress, weight, etc. My blends are full of flavor. You do not need to add sugar.
What are you most proud of? I took a hobby and turned it into a business! I love what I do. People enjoy drinking my tea.
What sets you apart from others? There is a story behind every blend. For instance, Teave Me Alone was originally created to help my grandmother relax before bedtime. I created Peppermintalitea because Starbucks constantly sold out of their Medicine Ball tea. I would rather drink tea as opposed to taking medicine. Miss You Alreatea is named after one of my favorite coworkers who always said “Miss You Already’! Entanglemint speaks for itself (relationship issues)! Kristea Cider is named after my best friend who died from breast cancer last year. A portion of the proceeds from Kristea Cider go to breast cancer awareness and research.
How’d you think through whether to sell directly on your own site or through a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc.
My ecommerce platform is Shopify. I started selling on Etsy and found that Shopify is more streamlined. It is easy to maintain and has all of the basics for starting your own business.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
I use email marketing campaigns through Shopify to reach my subscribers. I also advertise on social media. Instagram and Facebook are my main sources of marketing. I’ve also advertised through radio and television.
