Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Karl Legris. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Karl, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. I’m sure there have been days where the challenges of being an artist or creative force you to think about what it would be like to just have a regular job. When’s the last time you felt that way? Did you have any insights from the experience?
As an artist, I’m often faced with challenges when producing music, especially covers, where I have to find a way of adapting complex music to be played on a particular instrument. Producing a cover version is a lot of work, and sometimes I have to redo the track because it’s too similar to the original for publication. Being a musical artist isn’t really a profession, even if some of us are lucky enough to be able to make a living from it. It’s still a rather uncertain environment, just as a soccer player can’t be sure of being able to make a living from his passion in the future, an artist is exactly the same. On the other hand, my career as an artist and the challenges I’ve encountered have enabled me to develop professional skills that have made it easier for me to job interview and my work. I already have a regular job, so I can well imagine what it’s like to have one, my work means I have to travel regularly and sometimes sleep away from home, I also have to look after my family life, and managing an artist’s career on the side is already a big challenge.

Karl, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a musician and actor known by the artist name ZephyrMusic which is a play on words for a soft and pleasant musical wind. I play several instruments but I am best known as a pianist. I started music after discovering the guitar thanks to my elementary school teacher, my parents enrolled me in a music school to learn music theory and several instruments.
I learned fairly simple music and that I didn’t know. I made my own releases and the music that I wanted to cover myself, until I stopped going to music school and I continued being self-taught.

I watched a lot of the videos of musicians like the pianist Marcus Veltri, I really love his content and I was inspired by it to start my own, I therefore learned a large quantity of covers of all musical genres and approached a music distributor to be able to share them, I also rarely create compositions. I also sometimes offer themed videos mixing music and cinema by creating an immersive experience thanks to costumes and sets.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My main objective is to bring together a large community around my music, people from different countries who all have the same interest which is music. I also want to entertain the people who listen to my music and watch my videos, make them forget about their problems by giving them a good time, that’s really important to me. I also want to highlight artists who are not necessarily known by making covers of their music, we often hear the same music from the same artists but there are lots of other talented artists, I also want to highlight the creators who provide me with the costumes and sets for the themed videos.

How did you build your audience on social media?
An audience does not come quickly, it takes time for it to set up, I was patient and followed several rules that I will share with you to get to the audience I have today:
– It may seem obvious but to have an audience you have to create good content and this content must generate interest
– You must be easily findable on the web and social networks, you must avoid taking a similar artist name or even the same as an already strong artist because you will be drowned in the results, for the artist name you must that it represents what you do and that it is easy to remember; the name should not be too long or contain strange characters
– You must be recognizable, use the same artist name on all social networks to make it easier for the public to find you
– You have to do what you like but not stray too far from the initial theme which could seriously disturb your audience.
– Use hashtags in moderation, this tool is powerful if used well and will allow ew people to discover you
Don’t hesitate to take inspiration from content from other creators who you like, that’s what I did, the goal is that the person who watches or listens to your content has a good time
Finally, the most important rule is to share what you love and wish to share with others, so stay true to yourself.
