We recently connected with Karinna Fischer and have shared our conversation below.
Karinna , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
I came up with the idea for All Hallows’ Hair in the midst of the pandemic. When you’re given 2+ months to sit with yourself, a lot of things come into perspective. My interest in witchcraft and spirituality expanded greatly during this time. With that, my etsy shop All Hallows’ Apothecary was born. My shop’s motto is “encouraging self-love through magic,” and I quickly realized that this related to the hair that I create, as well. My goal was to create a space where my guests felt safe (pandemic or not); a space that was personable and 100% judgment-free. I wanted to create a space that embodies the magic of Halloween; that nostalgic, cozy, “right at home” feeling. I want my guests to feel at home when they walk in but ready to take on the outside world when they leave.
Karinna , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
For me, hair is one of our greatest tools of self-expression. I experimented with my own hair color from a young age and quickly learned firsthand the joy it gave me. As I got older, I knew I wanted to replicate that joy for others. When I reveal a color creation to a guest and see that instant boost of confidence ignite within them…*that* is why I do what I do. There are so many things that can hold someone back from trying something new with their hair, whether it be a job, a spouse, or just the fear of how it will look on them. Having the courage to step out of your comfort zone and into the person you’ve always wanted to be can be such a rewarding moment for us, and can even be life changing.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I will be the first to admit that it wasn’t an easy road to get to where I am now. Even before doing hair, I always struggled to fit in. Upon being hired at my first salon, I was immediately told to “tone down” my pink and purple hair in fear of scaring off guests. I was even told at one point that my goal of having a mostly creative color clientele would be “almost impossible.” I knew that vivid color was where I could express my artistic freedom but the other obstacle in my way was connecting with clients. When I first started on the floor, I had a difficult time building a clientele. I didn’t really know why at first; the passion was there, so what was missing? I realized I had allowed the repression get to me the point to where I was building a wall around myself, making it difficult to build that trusting relationship. There were multiple times where I even thought to myself, “maybe there aren’t enough people out there that I can relate to and that will trust me with something as important to them as their hair. Over the years, I have learned if you are true to yourself, you are passionate about what you do, and you really put your heart into it, the success will follow. At the end of the day, do what makes you happy. Do what you love, and do it with love. As cheesy as it sounds, you just have to believe in yourself.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Instagram and Tiktok have been a great way to reach new guests.
