We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Karine Lima. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Karine below.
Hi Karine, thanks for joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
After years of experience in front of the camera, we increasingly put our own pride and ego aside. The important thing for me today is to take portraits of different, passionate people who have their own expertise and to highlight them through video portraits.
I also try to give a voice to those who need it and on subjects that affect me.
Documentaries and reports are my priorities in terms of content.
Raising problems, highlighting things and people is, in my opinion, very important these days in order to open a dialogue on subjects that are sometimes difficult to address.
If it can serve or change the life of even one person, I will feel like I have accomplished my mission.

Karine, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I have been working in the artistic sector since I was 12 years old. I know television, radio, the press, small and large companies that have a business and offer people’s needs well. On the other hand, being in front and behind (the camera, the paper smear, the articles) it is sometimes difficult for customers to find their way around.
Customers need to be reassured, they like to trust specialists in a field.
My strength is my passion, my empathy and my involvement in everything I do.
I listen to my client a lot before starting to work with him on creating a video for example.
The best compliment I have received from a client is that by going through me everything went faster, that there were fewer intermediaries than in a large production company, that I immediately understood these needs , that there were fewer modifications to be made than elsewhere and that he saved time.
I share this because I have my reputation thanks to the word of mouth of my satisfied customers, not only do they come back but they bring me other customers…

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
When I arrived in Los Angeles, I didn’t know anyone, whereas in France I was a TV host/journalist and a well-known actress. I had to start everything from scratch, that was my goal when I arrived in the USA, to prove to myself that I was capable of starting all over again.
Not only did I work a lot as an actress and host, but it also allowed me to create Kaelproductions and launch into what was a logical continuation for me, production.
So I started producing content in 5 languages, I learned to film, to edit, to direct even better.
Then to surround myself with talented people and get bigger contracts.
This adventure has been great because for me learning, surpassing myself and improving every day while doing what I love is fundamental. My mantra is that everything is possible in life!
