We recently connected with Karina Premerlani and have shared our conversation below.
Karina, appreciate you joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I got married 6 years ago and had to travel at least 1 hour away to get the experience I desired to find my wedding gown. Never at this point did I think I would run my own business someday. I worked in a medical lab at the time and never expected the career part of my life to change much. After Covid that all changed, I had my daughter and lost my job all in one week. They were very uncertain times; for awhile I was a stay-at-home mom which was perfect for me in the beginning years. I was later given the opportunity to be an event coordinator with LEP Weddings & Events which worked well with my schedule as a mom and taught me so much. After making connections in the wedding world and thinking back to when I got married, I realized how there was still no bridal boutique in our area that served brides the way I wanted when I was a bride. Seeing how much the Treasure Coast was growing, I partnered with my mother in law with the idea to open our own boutique and we took the risk and started the journey. Having the fabulous new connections I made in the wedding industry as well as having the time and opportunity to decide my next career move, I had a good feeling it would work and we could do it. So many things excited me about this decision, bringing something new to the community I grew up in, being part of a person’s happiest time in their lives and the possibility of starting a business from the ground up and having it be successful for years to come.
Karina, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Since I was little I’ve always had a love for fashion, but never looked at it as a potential career, just more of a love/hobby. When I was forced to make a job change due to Covid, I realized anything was possible. That is when me and my mother in law combined our expertise and partnered to open Kaycee’s Bridal. To combine fashion with helping people all while being a part of the best time of someone’s life, is basically a dream. We offer brides a fabulous personalized experience when shopping for their wedding dress. Not only do we offer high quality, designer gowns, but we offer the friendly, comfortable, fun atmosphere all brides look for. We personally select each gown that we carry in our store based on trending styles, desired fabrics and ensure we have a large variety. We pride ourselves in making the bride feel supported in her dress shopping journey, not pressured. We are the bride’s advocate and want them to find the dress that makes them look and feel their absolute best.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I feel like something I had to unlearn during the process of opening my business is having to stick with your initial life plan. I have a bachelor’s degree in biology, and my prior career was in the medical field. I never used to accept change very well so when choosing my career I chose something broad, sustainable, in demand; never did I really focus on my love for anything or happiness in the career, I took a more logical approach. I also never thought I would go through many years of college getting my degree and then not really sticking to that field..
I have heard so many times from people now since I’ve opened the bridal boutique “this seems very random for you”. I strongly believe everything happens for a reason and without the complete 180 the world took I probably would not have this business right now. When I became a mom I knew I did not want the average 9-5 job and to be away from her more than I was with her. So when the sign and the opportunity to make the change presented itself, along with the continued support from family and friends, Kaycee’s Bridal was born and I am happier than ever.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
We try to start the relationship with the bride before she even walks through the door. We like to know their vision, we want to see their Pinterest board and what they’re feeling in their bridal era! Once the bride visits us we get to know them even more, about their love story, where their wedding is taking place and we get to meet some of the most important people in their lives.
Although we haven’t been open that long I feel our reputation is blossoming from not only carrying beautiful high-quality designer dresses, but being supportive during the process, a true friend in the boutique for them to tell all their likes and dislikes and how they’re feeling.
