We were lucky to catch up with Karina Masias recently and have shared our conversation below.
Karina, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
My husband and I were looking for a new brand, where we could put together our abilities as a team. He has 20 years as a businessman, and I have 10 years in the tourism industry.
Also, we detected the “pain” during the travel experiences whenever we came to Florida; travelers after a long flight are tired and the last thing that they want to do is to walk 15 minutes with their luggage, wait in queue for their turn and then receive the surprise that everything wasn’t paid for with the reservation.
we detected that flaw in the system.
So, we united both dimensions: skills and problem solving. Car rental is a traditional business, we decided to create SD MADISON RENT A CAR MIAMI, thinking about transforming a traditional business into something extraordinary.
We put our thoughts into giving our clients the best experience by focussing on how our customers want to feel. We established personal contact with our potential clients and clients; and every contact became a moment of truth, honing our problem-solving skills always based on empathy and emotions.
In this new era people want contact, they want to save time, and they want the liberty to choose. These 3 dimensions are nowadays our principles:
• We are Human,
• We are Agile,
• We are versatile.
We are human: there´s always someone there for you. “We are with you in all your journey”.
We are agile: You don´t have to wait for anything, just exit the airport and we are there for you.
We are versatile: our vehicle fleet satisfies the standards of our customers. We have, vans, SUVS, etc

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Of course, I am a Psychologist and coach expert in helping others to build tools so they can sucedd in their lives. Ive worked in the tourism industry for ten years son now I united both worlds.
I used my passion to be good, to nourish my heart, mi brain and my energy every single day, because I think my busines it is a reflection of who we are.
I consider myself a person that wants to create memorable experiences with empathy, humanizing every detail. So, I think that´s it: treat others considering the empathy map, their needs and motivations.
That is how we do it with our team, clients, and investors.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Yes, and this is a very good question because I think resilience must be your number one ability.
Three years ago, we were excited to set up this new idea, so we started to knock on some doors, Week 1: cero response, Week 2: cero response, Week 3: cero response. It was so frustrating!
But we kept going because we really believed that this was going to work…and it did. We bought the first car. We started from scratch. by talking to everyone to find the added value for our clients. We investigated about other companies in the same line of business, benchmarking, but it was basically to look for the potential additional service we could bring to the table to make a real difference.
And most importantly, we started with what we have, one day at a time.
Thinking big, having the big picture and of course focused on small actions that can bring us closer to our goal.
We started to have fans, not only customers. People that were so pleased with our brand, our principles and our team of employees
The journey continues, the challenges are there all the time. But we do truly believe that when you design and develop things with a true heart, a strong strategy and confidence; amazing things can happen.
Sometimes you only must believe in your persistence, taking one problem at a time.
Do not quit.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I am a mom for two amazing children of 6 and 3 years old, and besides SD Madison Rent a Car Miami I am also a motivational speaker and a coach that helps people to have the resources to go thru life and accomplish their goals.
So, yes. Sometimes it can be messy. But I think the importance about life and everything you do is to have your priorities clear. To do the conscious exercise of what is more important.
Second, with such a little amount of free time now, I choose how to spend it and with whom. My energy is the most valuable thing I have, so I ask myself everyday if ‘this’ really matters. Our energy is a limited resource so we must use it wisely.
And third, my family are involved in what I do all the time. I have non-negotiables such as spending time with my family every day. Focus on quality time, and a lot of communication. Without the support of my husband and my kids it wouldn’t be possible.
