Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Karima Jay . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Karima , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today The first dollar you earn is always exciting – it’s like the start of a new chapter and so we’d love to hear about the first time you sold or generated revenue from your creative work?
The first dollar I have ever earned as a creative was when I got paid to perform. Once I realized the high value of getting paid to perform, my entire business was formulated off of this experience. Of course I put in the work to get paid which is selling the “X” amount of tickets needed. It is a great feeling to not always be spending and spending and spending and actually seeing some of that money come back to you.
Karima , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am Karima Jay. Singer/songwriter/CEO/businesswoman/mother/student/woman of the most high. I got into the music industry because of destiny. I have been singing since I was 4 years old. I still To this day have not shown the world the full potential of my gift I’ve been given which is my vocals and writing skills. I evolved into a business woman over my time of being in this industry. Instead of focusing on solely my growth as an upcoming artist, I started focusing on many others as well. That’s how JME (Jay Music Entertainment) started. Seems like ever since I started JME, it has not wanted to stop. That’s how I know it’s my destiny to be in the music industry. I am here to shift it. I am here to change the mindset of many. I am here to uplift, to guide, and encourage. I am most proud of the most high, Jesus (Yeshua) and myself for continuing the impossible to many. I pray for wisdom and strength consistently, and he has proven through my reputation to have delivered. I want my future clients, supporters, fans, etc. to know that living life full of darkness leads you to not be able to see clearly where you are going. You will get lost and constantly be in fear of your path ahead. But when you walk in the light (in faith) the path is clear as day. No way you can get lost. And others can see you and help you along the way. Stay in the light. Don’t let the shadows consume you.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
There are so many individuals going after a music career, the industry is very saturated. So it is very hard for an upcoming artist to receive support and recognition. The best thing people can do is support each other. Artists need to support other artists. Friends and family need to do a better job at being there for the creative in the friend group/family. There should be more people investing in these upcoming artists like they do an upcoming business. If you see them consistently going hard, help uplift them in any way you can.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
As an artist and business woman, my main goal is to inspire. I want people to be inspired by the way I achieved success. I want other females to stop thinking they HAVE to sell their bodies to be “popular” and “make it”. I want to be the living proof of someone who has gained extreme amount of success by remaining humble and close to the most high.
