We recently connected with Kari Crispo and have shared our conversation below.
Kari, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
Crisp Events & Design is named after my new last name (Crispo) and as a tribute to my sweet husband whose never-ending love and support pushed me to finally start my own business after talking about it for years.
Crisp, by definition, is an adjective that is: clear, effective, concise, and to the point. I make it a goal of mine to always act in this manner when dealing with couples, vendors, and overall business. In order to be a successful Wedding Planner/Coordinator, you must be very clear and effective with directions, concise with the vision, and to the point when describing anything related to the day-of and/or the couples wishes.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Kari Crispo. I was born & raised in Scranton, PA (yes, like The Office – my favorite show!) and moved to North Carolina almost 2 years ago. I have always been the party planner in the family. When I got engaged in July 2022, my party planning self was thriving. I loved every second of the planning process, and it was the inspiration I needed to switch from event planning to wedding planning.
It brings me so much joy to serve my couples on one of the biggest days of their lives. We offer a variety of planning and coordination package options to fit every budget and need. What makes how I run my business unique is from the moment of booking, you have full access to either me or someone on my team. Regardless of the planning package, you will receive helpful tips and tricks sent strategically throughout the couple’s planning journey.
I would say the majority of our events are inspired by a classic look and feel, sprinkled with unique elements specific to the couple. Regardless of the vision of the event, the goals remain the same: stress free for both my couple + their families, fun, and beautiful!
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Building a reputation can be a tricky thing. For a lot of us in the wedding industry, or service industry in general, it comes from word of mouth. Every day, I show up as my true authentic self, bringing my best to my couples and showing my personality. I love connecting with my couples, and when I share some of my personal life, it makes me seem more human and more relatable to them.
A few other principles I have always followed are: do what you say, listen first, and accept responsibility. There is no quicker way to lose trust and tarnish your reputation than not doing what you say. I am very intentional when it comes to telling couples what I can/cannot do and what they can expect/not expect. I set clear boundaries because I don’t like surprises! Especially when it comes to someone’s wedding day!
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of new clients I’ve found is having a strong social media/web presence and definitely word of mouth! I have had many couples come to me that were recommended by either another couple, a friend, or family member! Word of mouth and sharing your experience with me in the form of reviews is always super appreciated.
In regards to the web presence, I built a strong website with key words so when a couple is searching for a planner or coordinator in the area, it brings them to my site as one of the top recommendations!
