We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Karen Shade Leamy. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Karen below.
Alright, Karen thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What was the most important lesson/experience you had in a job that has helped you in your creative career?
After living most of my life with a “boss”, I’ve discovered, I LOVE being my own boss! I do custom work and repairs, but I never tire of making anything and everything I desire! I can work on projects for hours, and love showing my items at art shows!

Karen, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’ve always been involved in some kind of arts and crafts. I started with ceramics, hook rugs, photography, cross stitch and embroidery all about the same time which probably wasn’t the best therapy for my carpal tunnel syndrome!
After 3 surgeries, I started gardening, cooking, skiing, and bought a motorcycle!
Finally, I thought, “I should maybe start acting my age” (NOT) so I gave up skiing. A friend suggested we take a class in stained glass; not interested at, but with no other volunteers, I gave in. 34 years later, and I am the only one left creating! I love it!
My latest passion is outdoor decor. I thrive on challenges. You design, I’ll create! When I’m not creating, you can still find me in my garden, it gets bigger every year

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Creativity is so relaxing! Everyday life is so inspirational! Sun, rain, birds, fields of flowers, snow, people, my sister gave me a spoon and it turned into a dragonfly, one of my top collecions !

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I love showing my creations and love when others appreciate them as well. I have made so many new friends from miles away who follow me at numerous art shows! Most recalling what they’ve collected from me over the years
