Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Karen Revelo-Washington. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Alright, Karen thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?

I can’t pin point what made me pick up the camera back in 2017, but I know it was one of my God given purposes. I remember falling in love with photographing people. I loved capturing moments in time that can never be lived again, but can be remembered and felt for years. The love for a human beings’ life and the individuality of that being is something I hold dear to my heart. As a bereaved mother, I know what it feels like to cherish a photograph of my beloved son and how I have enjoyed reliving all the beautiful memories that we shared together. What better way to pay it forward by making sure I capture beautiful moments in time for others. It could be a portrait of a talented model, a family for their annual Christmas card, your child’s first birthday photoshoot or an event like a Wedding or a community outreach. For all that it’s been, I have enjoyed every step of the way. The good and the bad. I honestly did not know how much I would continue to learn and how much I know now about photography. Though there is so much to learn still, what I know now in 2023 compared to 2017 even 2020 has been a major growth. I am ready to continue my journey of learning not just in my craft but loving the people I meet.

Hi, my name is Karen Washington known as Karen Revelo, a local photographer in the San Fernando Valley in California. I have been photographing since 2017, however for the past 3 years it’s been my career. I specialize in portraiture, I also offer holiday mini photoshoots, events and personalized party photo booths. I create memories for an individual or a family by catering to their vision and bringing it to life. My love and respect for people’s needs is my modo. I want to create a warm, loving, and caring atmosphere. I want to go out of my way to make sure your experience is smooth and comfortable in front of the camera as well as behind the scenes.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?

The most rewarding part of being a photographer is the feeling you can convey. You can express yourself when you are happy, sad, over joyed, disappointed, or feeling a freshness of passion.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?

Photography showed me how much I wanted to make a difference in my community mainly children, our future. I am blessed to also be an educator of small minds. Photography and teaching go hand and hand for my journey. I am more open and transparent with others, I happily encourage those around me, and I am confident that I can succeed.
