Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Karen Martin. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Karen, appreciate you joining us today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
My mom and dad always encouraged me and my sisters to go after what we desired. They showed us by example that a good work ethic can help you go far in life. Until I was an adult, I didn’t realize that we were a “blue-collar” family that never over indulged in material things. I learned from them that effort, not luck, leads to success, and that true reward lies in personal growth and contributing to something larger than ourselves. My parents made us “rich” by giving us time with them. By prioritizing experiences over acquisitions, they demonstrated the joy of learning, the value of connection and the importance of a life enriched by meaning, not just money. I often joke that they tried to squelch my entrepreneurial dreams only once-when I was six and went around the neighborhood selling rocks (for people to use in their aquariums, nonetheless); and they made me return the money as well as retrieve the rocks to put back in our driveway. Other than that incidence, they always stood behind me and supported me in all my endeavors.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
After experiencing wonderful results for issues with my rotator cuff, I decided to research the Pulsed Electro-Magnetic Field (PEMF) therapy device that helped me, in order to see what other health and physical issues it could benefit. I joined forces with the company, BEMER, as an independent distributor and partnered with someone else in the field to open a space in 2021. In January of 2022 I branched off to start my own wellness studio. Since then, I have helped over 200 people with various health issues. The specific pulsed therapy I provide in my studio increases circulation in the small blood vessels, which make up about 75% of our circulatory system. An increase in circulation to the cells helps to better deliver nutrients, red and white blood cells and oxygen more efficiently to every cell, including the heart. This system essentially helps the body heal itself by:
*Reducing discomfort and inflammation
*Improving circulation
*Lowering blood pressure
*Boosting the immune system
*Supporting the healing of wounds and sports injuries
*Increasing physical and mental performance
*Shortening recovery times in sports training
*Boosting mental acuity
*Delivering nutrients to cells and removing waste products from them
I had worked in the home-health field for years which propelled me to complete certification as a wellness coach. I enjoy helping my clients with all aspects of their well-being as I am a firm believer that healing yourself and preventative care has to be a multi-prong approach. I am available for community outreach programs and have presented on topics such as pain management alternatives, the power of good circulation, living with neuropathy and bio-hacking for cancer and other diseases. I developed a two week “feel-good challenge” whose book format was published in June of 2023.
I enjoy educating clients on how PEMF therapy can help them and have invested in units so that they may rent one to experience the therapy in the comfort of their own home for their entire family to use. 2024 promises to be a year of growth as we expand our offerings to not only feeling better, but looking better with the addition of low level light therapy. I look forward to growing my client base as I have been blessed to be able to not only serve customers, but truly build a relationship with each and everyone of them.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
As a solopreneur, I manage all publicity and marketing in addition to being the hands-on person providing the PEMF therapy. It is important that each client and networking interaction reflect my integrity and shines a positive light on my business. Being true to myself allows my authenticity to be at the forefront of all my work relations. I never pretend to be someone I am not or know more than I do, and I feel people can ascertain and respect that. Since word-of-mouth is the number one way I obtain new customers, recommendations from clients carry the weight of personal experience and genuine enthusiasm. Positive referrals not only help me reach new audiences but also reinforces my existing reputation among customers. Repeated recommendations solidify my position as a trusted provider, strengthening brand loyalty and encouraging repeat business.
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
In my business, I spend a lot of time speaking with my clients. Listening more than I speak has helped me get to know them on a more personal level so they feel comfortable, allowing us to have better interactions. I have also delved into learning more about personality based sales and relationships. I discovered that I need to speak my prospective client’s “langauge” to have a more solid relationship with them. Connecting with others on a profoundly impactful level has super charged my business in the past few months. I have shared what I learned about this methodology with several other small business owners and am excited to present the information to even more people in related fields.
