I would be very clear on exactly what I do and who it is I want to do it for. Not being an everything to everybody and building my services based on their needs and pricing.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I worked in the corporate world all my life up until Jan of 2010 when I lost my mother suddenly to cancer. It caused me to completely reevaluate my life and realize that I wasn’t living to my fullest potential. I wanted to find some purpose out of the pain. So I chose to quit my corporate job, after 16 years, and do some serious soul searching. I had no idea what I wanted to do, I just knew it wasn’t what I was doing. During my “soul searching” time my neighbor, who owned a non-profit, approached me and asked if I would help her with her fundraiser. She knew I had some experience in marketing and social media. So, 90-days later we had the event and it was a huge success. The realtors that had donated the space for the event approached me and asked me how much I would charge them to help them with their social media, and that is literally where it all started. 12 years later, I haven’t looked back.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
The fact that I never waivered from social media marketing as my area of expertise. I never changed being an expert in social media, even during times when I was really financially struggling and getting a job or deciding to do something different might have been what many others would have chosen, I stuck with it. Having tenure and longevity is a very valuable asset when it comes to creating a strong reputation. That and always doing what you say you will do – over-delivering. Being led by integrity is key!
