Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Karen Lewis. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Karen, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
Every project I work on is meaningful to someone. When you think of flowers, you can’t help but think of expressions of love. While we often give flowers to loved ones on Valentine’s Day, they also play a role in some of life’s biggest milestones. A bouquet of flowers is carried down the aisle of a wedding to symbolize the love between two people. We send flowers to a memorial service to express our love for someone who is no longer with us. We give flowers to those we care about, not just because they are beautiful, but because they convey the love we feel for them. For me, creating art with flowers is about preserving these expressions of love in a beautiful keepsake that connects my clients to the most meaningful moments and people in their lives.
Karen, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Creating art has been a passion of mine since I was a little girl. In the spring of the 4th grade, I was assigned to collect, identify, and press native wildflowers for a class project. Little did I know that this would become one of my most beloved childhood memories. Fast forward to the spring of 2020 when our world came to a screeching halt, and we were forced to enjoy the little things in life.
My family and I planted a wildflower patch, and I was quickly reminded of how much I loved pressing flowers and creating art. Now, my cherished memories of pressing flowers as an adult are intertwined with the joy of walking to the wildflower patch with my family to see what was blooming. These moments are even more precious now that my girls have both flown the nest and are creating memories of their own.
As I refined my techniques and explored other avenues of preserving flowers, it warmed my heart to preserve my daughter’s wedding flowers, keeping the memories of that special evening of love and laughter alive. For me, flowers, art and special moments are inseparable. I have dedicated countless hours and resources to ensure I deliver quality heirlooms using the finest materials. It is my delight to offer elegant trays, prism ring holders, square and hexagon shaped blocks, ornaments and more, all made with high-quality epoxy resin. Each piece is crafted with care and attention to detail, making them beautiful keepsakes that capture the essence of your special moments.
Whether you are celebrating a wedding, honoring a loved one, or simply cherishing the beauty of flowers, I can’t wait to work with you and create something truly meaningful.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. As a creative, you often wonder if others will see the beauty in your work. For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is that my art is out there in the world. Not only does it bring me joy creating it, but it also brings beauty and joy to others.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
If you know me very well, you know I love a good podcast or audio book. Mixing and pouring resin is the perfect time for listening to a podcast. Some of my favorite podcasts for creative entrepreneurship are “Consider the Wildflowers,” “The Tillage Podcast” and “Art + Audience.” If I need some swift motivation “The Power of One More” by Ed Mylett is a must.
