We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Karen H. Salup. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Karen H. below.
Alright, Karen H. thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How do you feel about asking friends and family to support your business? What’s appropriate, what’s not? Where do you draw the line?
Well I’m an artist and my business survivies with follower’s that support my social media and visit my studio, this also includes my family and previous collector”s. There is no line in this type of business. The more support you have the better you find your business survival. Viewers stop in love your art, ask to explain what my motivation is, the price and do not purchase your panting.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My background in art has lead me in many places, I started in New York with classes in drawing, oils, and watercolor. Graduating high school, I decided to study at the School of Visual Art, Brooklyn Museum, offered classes’s over the summer and ended with C.W. Post University, which is now Long Island University. I also studied with professional artist and learnt more about painting, color theory,
and mixed media with one on one artists. Once I felt secure in my career, I started exhibiting through the Long Island Art groups and then became an associate member in art organizations. National Association of Women Artist in New York was an art organization I’ve been very involved in over the years. During that time, in the early 90’s I joined several co-operative galleries. Where my name and art
reached The New York Times Art page and South Shore newspapers and etc. When online galleries started being created, I was asked join www.paintingsdirect.com and my art was World Wide.
Im most proud of my continued art exposure and that over a 45year profession, I’m still an Abstract Expressionist.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Once again, my journey of being an artist has taken me over 45years of experiences and travels and knowledge. Im known as a professional artist, teacher of the arts and Art Historian. I have been President of Women in the Visual Art.org, Florida. Vice President of National Association of Women Artist, Florida Chapter. Scholarship Chair for Palm Beach Watercolor.org.
My peers seek my critiques and knowledge of fine art. I have juried exhibits and co-created art events.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
When I became a mother, of three beautiful daughters, I had to slow up my career, and focus on them. It wasn’t easy to step back from my full time pursuit of art, but I did. and moving into a bigger home where I built a studio made my day to day creative life! let’s say on the job MOM.
