We were lucky to catch up with Karen Brown recently and have shared our conversation below.
Karen, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
In 2019, I was diagnosed with several autoimmune and neurological conditions and was unable to walk for 2 years. I had two small children and was bedridden most of the time. It was a very dark time in my life and Drs kept giving me more meds to help the symptoms but nothing was giving back my quality of life. One day, I had what seemed like a moment of clarity and decided to print out my labs over the last 2 years and research everything on them. I figured out that I was suffering from several vitamin deficiencies as well as a sodium deficiency. No Dr had ever told me this and I was too sick to notice. I started researching how to help myself restore those vitamin levels and with the help of my family Nurse Practitioner, I was able to recover. I no longer live with symptoms and have made a full recovery. This was a pivotal moment for me in that it birthed a passion for health, wellness and the benefits of vitamins for the body. I started noticing these mobile IV businesses around our area and started using their services for myself and family members when COVID hit. The IV nutrients were so powerful in helping us all overcome COVID and other illness that we decided to start our own mobile IV business to help others in the same way that we have been helped. We are now getting to live out our passion and see others receive benefits from IV vitamin therapy.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
We own a Mobile IV business and offer IV saline, nutrient therapy and vitamin shots for the treatment of symptoms such as dehydration, fatigue, vitamin deficiencies, viral illness, etc. We got started simply from a passion for natural wellness and vitamin benefits. We wanted to help others in the same way we had been helped so we decided to start this business from the ground up. I’m a firm believer in meditation and visualization and so I spent a lot of time visualizing the medical team we would have. Soon enough, we had an incredible medical director who was open to learning and growing with us. We then found a team of nurses who are highly skilled in their profession.
The type of IV therapy we offer contains nutrients such as vitamin C, zinc, magnesium,B-complex and B12. Our clients often come to us during the toughest of times when they are stuck in bed with a viral illness or feeling dehydrated and weak. Our nurses go to their homes, hotels or places of business and provide IV therapy on-site. One thing that sets us apart is our training process. We are very thorough in our training and arm our nurses with the necessary knowledge to provide a safe, effective and helpful service. This is something that is unfortunately lacking in our field as many IV companies do not train their teams on the chemistry, IV vitamin benefits or the importance of staying compliant with government policies.
One thing I am most proud of is that we started this business from nothing simply based on being divinely guided through meditation and prayer. Every step of the way has required tremendous faith and asking for the next steps to be given for us to continue. We have not been steered wrong yet so we will continue trusting and praying.
Some things we would like clients and followers to know is the backstory to our business. As someone who suffered major health issues and found my way out by replenishing my own vitamin deficiencies, I found a way to help others with their own health struggles. Our brand is about the client experience. We want every client to see that we truly care and are there to build a relationship with them and their loved ones. We call many of our clients family now and that makes all of the effort worth it.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for building clientele has been through network marketing. Networking is the most powerful thing we have found in growing our client base. I attend 3-4 networking related events per week and see amazing results from this strategy. On the weeks that I’m slacking on this, I can see the struggle that comes from it.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Something I’ve had to unlearn is some of the rules taught from childhood about niceness. I am learning that being nice is not the best approach because nice means I am not speaking up and being truthful about where I stand, what I think and how I feel. Some rules such as : I must always quietly disagree and not share my views or rock the boat. And I must keep everyone happy at all times by staying timid and “nice” just won’t serve me, my business or our clients well. I am unlearning this thinking and now learning to have a voice and be true to myself. The backstory is that I was raised to never rock the boat or stir the pot. And as an adult, I carried on with this same approach. The problem is that in business, you can’t just let others railroad you or you will quickly go out of business from trying to please everyone. I always admire the business owners who know what their ideal client is and they won’t settle. If a client isn’t a good cultural fit, they won’t work with them. I am learning that it is okay to say no when it’s not a good fit which requires me to let go of the niceness and be bold and kind instead.
