We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Karel Curras. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Karel below.
Karel, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I have always been in the entertainment business since I was a young boy. I love making people laugh so I liked the spotlight despite that I was shy. I don’t believe that I could have sped up the learning process in acting/performing because it’s a never ending learning environment. You are constantly being molded by every aspect of your experience. I believe being open minded helped me to learn more and I was able to apply what I learned to make it work for me. In addition to the acting, I am a full time neuromuscular therapist and I also taught anatomy and physiology for 23 years so I don’t believe those were obstacles but it didn’t allow me to be a full time performer.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I started out with a theater company name Fantasy Theatre Factory in Miami, FL. They gave me an opportunity to be a juggler and a stiltwalker. I was with them for approximately 6 years and I started applying for some acting gigs on the side. Soon, I was an extra for a movie that was filming in Miami, Florida call Le Grand Pardon II and then I started to pay more attention to other projects that were filming in my area. I was very interested in performing because I could be someone else and not myself. I found it fascinating that I can learn lines and portray another character and have fun with it. I believe you have to enjoy what you are doing and then comes the dedication, perseverance, and the not giving up attitude which is for me the important attribute any human being should have once you are in this planet.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I get to meet so many people and each person is a book. You learn from their stories if you are open minded of course. Every situation and person give you an opportunity to mold your skills and to better yourself to become that person that you want to be along with your goals. Most importantly, I have a lot of fun with it and I love the interaction I have with every person I meet.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
I say that there are so many ways in which we as individuals get shaped into what we do. I don’t believe there is a single book or video or situation that motivates us but if I was to pick one, it would be the opportunity that all of us get to be better at what we do by interacting with everyone and learning how each person gets motivated to do their profession and hobby. I live the psychology behind the stories and how that behavior changes an outcome.
