Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kareen Chung. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kareen, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
My parents Mgurite and Morris Chung have had a profound impact on my life and career, and I am grateful for the many things they did right. Their most significant contribution was instilling in me a strong work ethic and sense of responsibility from a young age.
But beyond that, what I love most about my parents is their compassion and kindness. They always spoke to me with respect and gave me advice in a gentle but firm way. This has shaped me into a more well-rounded individual who values empathy and understanding.
Another thing my parents did right was allow me to choose my own path in life. They never forced me into a particular career or life path, but instead gave me the freedom to explore my interests and passions. This has allowed me to pursue a career that I love and am passionate about, and I am grateful for their support in this regard.
Overall, my parents have been a source of inspiration and guidance throughout my life, and I am grateful for the many things they did right.
I am grateful for my parents’ unwavering support during my studies in psychotherapy. From the beginning, they recognised that I had the attributes to excel in this field and encouraged me to pursue it.
Throughout my journey, my parents were my biggest supporters. They helped cultivate the path for me and provided the resources and guidance I needed to succeed. Their belief in me gave me the confidence to push forward, even when the road ahead seemed daunting.
Their support has been invaluable in my career as a psychotherapist. I credit them for helping me become the person I am today and for instilling in me a deep passion for helping others. I am grateful for everything they have done for me and will always cherish their support and guidance.
My Business Heart to Heart Therapy was a name given by my late mother because she said I worked from my heart. Rest in Peace Magurite Chung
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m Kareen Chung, founder of Heart to Heart therapy and an Integrative Psychotherapist who is passionate about helping people overcome mental health challenges and improve their overall well-being.
I got into the field of psychotherapy after experiencing my own mental health struggles and seeing firsthand the impact that therapy can have on a person’s life. I was inspired to help others in the same way that my therapist had helped me, and pursued my education and training in psychotherapy.
I have since had the privilege of working with a diverse range of clients, and I have found that the integrative approach to therapy that I use is highly effective in helping people overcome a wide range of challenges. I draw from various therapeutic approaches, such as humanistic, cognitive-behavioural therapy, psychodynamic therapy, and mindfulness-based therapy, to tailor my approach to the specific needs of each client.
As an Integrative Psychotherapist, my goal was to create a safe and welcoming space where people of all backgrounds could come for healing and support. I wanted the freedom to draw from various therapeutic approaches and tailor my approach to the specific needs of each client.
Many people find it challenging to put their feelings into words and make sense of what they are going through. As a therapist, I wanted to provide a non-judgmental and confidential space where clients could talk about whatever is concerning them. My aim was to create a therapeutic relationship that is based on acceptance, value, and safety.
My goal was to empower clients to explore their issues, rebuild their self-confidence, and take responsibility for their own choices. I wanted to help them make positive changes in their lives and provide therapy that is tailored to their unique needs.
I believe that everyone deserves access to therapy that is personalised and supportive, and I am committed to providing that kind of care to all of my clients.
As a black integrative psychotherapist, I bring a unique perspective and set of experiences to the field of psychotherapy. My background and cultural identity enable me to understand and connect with clients who may have had similar experiences, and to provide a culturally sensitive and responsive approach to therapy.
My presence in the field of psychotherapy is also significant because it helps to break down the stigma surrounding mental health in the black community. Many individuals in the black community may feel hesitant to seek therapy due to cultural or societal factors, such as the fear of being seen as weak or the belief that mental health challenges are not real.
My role as a black integrative psychotherapist helps to challenge these beliefs and provide a safe and supportive space for individuals to seek the help they need. By bringing my unique perspective and experiences to the field of psychotherapy, I am helping to ensure that clients receive the highest quality of care that is tailored to their individual needs.
One of my greatest strengths as a psychotherapist is my ability to empathise with my clients and see life through their eyes. Walking alongside them on their journey, I find immense fulfilment in helping them heal from deep-seated issues like childhood traumas and life’s challenges. I relish the opportunity to meet new people, build trust, and expand their hearts. After all, everyone deserves the chance to heal and grow from the issues that weigh them down.
Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
Absolutely, I wouldn’t change a thing about my choice to become an integrative psychotherapist. It’s incredibly fulfilling to help others and make a positive impact on their lives. The only thing I would do differently is to have discovered my passion for this work at a younger age so that I could have started on this path earlier. Nonetheless, I’m grateful for the journey that led me here and I hope that my experience can inspire others to find their own calling and pursue their passions with purpose and determination.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Referrals from clients and networking are essential in establishing and maintaining a strong reputation within the community. Building a good rapport with clients and people in general, along with demonstrating genuineness and care through a calm and trusting demeanour, are also critical elements in establishing credibility. These factors contribute to the perception of the quality of service provided and help solidify a positive reputation. However, a business that speaks for itself is the cornerstone of success. When clients refer their colleagues or friends to a business, it is a testament to the high-quality service that they receive and speaks volumes about the reputation of the business. Furthermore, a strong social media presence can also be a powerful tool for building a reputation. It can help to amplify the reach of the business and create a positive image that resonates with potential clients. In summary, referrals, networking, rapport-building, trustworthiness, quality service, and a strong social media presence are all vital components that contribute to building and maintaining a strong reputation in the community.
