Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kareen Blake Chin. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Kareen, thanks for joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The most meaningful project I have done so far was the Bob Marley- One Love Film
I started this project in 2021, and it was released in February 2024.
I grew up listening to Bob Marley’s music, so getting the chance to cast a film about his life was deeply personal. It wasn’t just about finding actors—it was about finding people who could truly embody his spirit, speak Patois, sing, and play instruments, all the while honouring his legacy. Seeing the cast come together and transform into these iconic figures was surreal. The camaraderie, the passion, and their love for the story made this experience unforgettable. It felt like more than just a film—it was history coming to life.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I have always loved films from an early age. I was ever so fascinated by the way actors could embody different lives and experiences, making audiences feel deeply connected to a story. That passion led me to casting, where I get to play a crucial role in shaping narratives by finding the right people to bring characters to life.
Whether it’s discovering fresh faces or working with seasoned actors, my focus is always on authenticity, cultural nuance, and accuracy.
I take pride in discovering actors who may not have had traditional opportunities but have the talent and passion to shine on screen.
I love what I do; it is thankless at times, but very rewarding, and a plus is that I get to meet and work with some of the most amazing and talented people.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal is to bring authentic Caribbean representation to the screen. I want to foster change by creating a more inclusive and culturally authentic industry by providing opportunities for overlooked talent. My mission is to reshape industry standards and open doors for local actors to be seen and heard on a global stage.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding part of casting is seeing actors step into their roles and truly bring a story to life. Watching their growth, especially those who are getting their first big opportunity, is an incredible feeling.
