We recently connected with Kareem “Reemo Meerak” Tyson and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Kareem “Reemo Meerak” thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
Honestly, when I was in my mid 20’s. Before that, my aspirations were playing overseas with Basketball. I wasn’t really into the entertainment industry because I felt that I would have to “Fake-It to Make It” and I wasn’t about that at all. Although, many of my friends and peers would suggest it heavily because of my witty, humorous, and charismatic presence, as well as I had a “look” for it. Like around 2005, as I’m hooping at West 4th Street Courts (AKA “The Cage”). One of my mentors, and good friend named “Doc” had a real one to one conversation with me asking “Do I really want to play basketball for the rest of my life or make money enjoying something you’ll love”. He mentions about what my friends and peers kept telling me of my witty, humorous, and charismatic presence and really should consider going into entertainment.
Then, I go home and research the entertainment industry, as well as ask some of my peers who are entertainers about the pros and cons. I contemplate about my options, despite still going to college, and working at a high luxury women’s store in Soho. In 2006, I made the decision to go into the entertainment industry, and I started out as an Actor with Central Casting Agency.
From that point onto 18 years later, still doing what I love and passionately intrigued of creating more.

Kareem “Reemo Meerak”, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am an Actor, Media Personality, Content Writer (Currently with Digiwaxx), and an A&R (Worldwide Soundz Records). As per the previous question, started out as an Actor doing Background Work and “One-Liners” on major Television Shows, and Films. Then, there was a time where I went through a heavy depression because I didn’t feel I was doing enough or that I felt people were going to shame me for failing. The depression led me to multiple suicidal attempts, and drinking binges where I really wasn’t myself, and extremely not happy. Once I got myself back in order, and really getting my happiness back. I pivoted to the Media Industry, and started out with an Internet radio station. Then, from there kept working on my craft and truly started getting a better understanding of the entertainment industry.
Honestly, my routine is of four core values. Stay Consistent, Building relationships, Staying up to date of current times, and Maintain business as best as possible. This industry is truly small, and word travels fast. Especially, with how the internet, and social media can expose or rather display you to the masses. I believe what sets me apart from many is that I’m very passionate of my craft, business savvy, and really a people person. Also, the energy I display with my content is uncanny, and relatable.
Also, with my brand I have assisted other brand and figures with productions as a Producer by editing and creative director on multiple projects. I’ve won a few awards for my creations of content under my brand. The most I’ve been proud of my achievements was the moment I won my first award at the Hip Hop Film Festival for one of my first platforms called “ReemTV: Get Serious TV”. I honestly cried because during this time was my 10th year in the industry and it really showed what I was able to overcome from my previous years of what I went through starting out in the industry. Another reason it was a proud moment because I won it in my hometown of Harlem, and in the historical National Black Theater was just as uncanny of a moment any creative could imagine.
Currently, I’ve returned to acting (Featured on The Drew Berrymore Show, Amazon Prime, Tubi, an an Off-Broadway Satire Play), as well as podcast with my platform; “Reemo Meerak: The C.U.T.S.” (C.U.T.S. – Culture x Urban x Technology x Sports), write blogs and articles for Digiwaxx, and a producer for a Podcast called “Think Free Network” and involved in music industry as an A&R.
Honestly, at this point of my career with the Reemo Meerak Brand it’s about maintaining the business acumen, continuing increasing the noreity, and inspiring as much people as I possibly can.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Society can stop being fed or inspired by the negativity and exposing energy being displayed within entertainment now. Not saying people don’t need to know, but like EVERYONE is feeling like “Exposing” people should be the way to go, or deemed as being “REAL”. Too many creatives are just letting any and all things out because it’s the “VIRAL” thing to do, and not really understanding the ramifications of the value decreased. Also, I feel more creatives have to answer the “WHY” of supporters and fans better because today’s era everyone pretty does the same and the world itself changes every day, hour, minute, sec and etc. One really has to be on top of things and consistently marketing their brand amongst the masses that are out there.

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
The one resource I really wish I would’ve knew and stayed on earlier in my career was YouTube and really understanding the internet. Despite going to college for Computer Science, it was more for business than for creatively. I did have a YouTube Channel, but I wasn’t as committed as I am currently. Also, during my depression years blinded me from that opportunity and I regret not being focused with my content, and marketing the brand. I can’t dwell up on the past, but definitely that’s one thing I really wish I knew about and stayed heavily committed to.
