We recently connected with Kareem Amado and have shared our conversation below.
Kareem, appreciate you joining us today. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
As a multifaceted creative – model, dancer, actor, and content creator – I’ve had my fair share of moments where the allure of a regular 9-to-5 job seemed tantalizing. It’s a sentiment I’m sure many artists can relate to. The freedom and spontaneity that come with being an artist are undeniably thrilling, but they can also be overwhelming and uncertain at times.
I recall the last time I had this thought quite vividly. It was during a particularly grueling period of auditions, rehearsals, and shoots. I had just received a string of rejections, and my schedule was a chaotic jumble of conflicting commitments. I was exhausted, both physically and mentally. As I sat in my cozy but cluttered apartment, staring at the mess of scripts, costumes, and makeup scattered around me, I felt like I was drowning in a sea of uncertainty.
In that moment, the idea of trading in my artistic pursuits for a stable, predictable job seemed like a welcome refuge. I envisioned myself working a steady 9-to-5, with a clear-cut routine, a reliable paycheck, and a sense of security that didn’t hinge on the whims of casting directors or client approvals. The thought was tempting, and for a fleeting instant, I allowed myself to indulge in the fantasy of a life free from the constant scrutiny and competition that comes with being an artist.
But as I sat there, surrounded by the tangible manifestations of my passion, something shifted inside me. I began to reflect on why I became an artist in the first place. I thought about the rush of adrenaline I feel when I’m on stage, the sense of fulfillment that comes with bringing a character to life, and the joy of connecting with audiences through my performances. I remembered the countless hours of sweat, tears, and dedication that have gone into honing my craft, and the pride I take in being a master of multiple disciplines.
As I weighed the pros and cons of a regular job against the unpredictable but exhilarating life of an artist, I came to a profound realization. The happiness and fulfillment I derive from my creative pursuits far outweigh the security and stability that a traditional job could offer. The uncertainty and chaos that sometimes accompany my profession are a small price to pay for the freedom to express myself, to take risks, and to push the boundaries of what’s possible.
Of course, this doesn’t mean that I don’t appreciate the value of stability and security. I do. But for me, the trade-off would be too great. I would sacrifice too much of myself, too much of my creative essence, if I were to abandon my artistic pursuits for the comfort of a regular job.
In the end, as I tidied up my apartment, organized my scripts, and prepared for the next audition, I felt a sense of clarity and resolve wash over me. I knew that I would continue to navigate the ups and downs of my artistic journey, because the joys, the challenges, and the endless possibilities that come with it are what make me truly happy.

Kareem, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

With a passion that spans multiple creative disciplines, I’ve had the privilege of working in various industries, from fashion and entertainment to digital media.
Growing up, I was always fascinated by the performing arts. As a child, I would watch music videos and attempt to recreate the choreography in my living room. This early fascination eventually led me to pursue dance training, which became the foundation of my artistic expression. As I honed my skills, I began to explore other creative outlets, including modeling and acting.
My breakthrough in the industry came when I landed my first modeling contract with a prestigious agency. This opportunity allowed me to work with renowned brands, photographers, and stylists, further developing my skills and building a network of industry professionals. As my modeling career took off, I began to receive offers for acting roles in films, television shows, and commercial productions. This exposure led me to explore content creation, where I could leverage my creativity to produce engaging content for my growing audience.
Through my various creative endeavors, I provide a range of products and services that cater to diverse clients. As a model, I offer my services for editorial, commercial, and runway projects. As a dancer, I create choreographed performances for events, music videos, and live shows. As an actor, I take on roles in film, television, and theater productions. Additionally, I create content for social media platforms, YouTube, and blogs, focusing on lifestyle, beauty, and wellness topics.
At the core of my work is a dedication to helping my clients and audience. As a model, I help brands showcase their products and services in a captivating and memorable way. As a dancer and actor, I bring characters to life, evoking emotions and connecting with audiences on a deeper level. Through my content creation, I provide valuable information, inspiration, and entertainment to my followers.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Fostering a thriving creative ecosystem requires a multifaceted approach that acknowledges the valuable contributions of artists and creatives to our cultural, social, and economic well-being. In my view, society can best support artists, creatives, and the creative ecosystem by implementing the following strategies:
Firstly, it is essential to recognize the intrinsic value of art and creativity, moving beyond the notion that they are mere luxuries or hobbies. This shift in perspective would enable policymakers to prioritize investments in arts education, cultural institutions, and creative infrastructure, such as studios, galleries, and performance spaces.
Secondly, providing access to affordable resources, including funding, mentorship, and networking opportunities, is critical for artists and creatives to develop their skills, showcase their work, and build sustainable careers. Governments, foundations, and private organizations can play a vital role in offering grants, residencies, and other forms of support that cater to diverse creative disciplines and needs.
Thirdly, creating a culture of cross-pollination and collaboration between art, technology, and other sectors can lead to innovative solutions, new business models, and fresh perspectives. This can be achieved through initiatives like artist-in-residence programs, hackathons, and interdisciplinary workshops that bring together artists, entrepreneurs, scientists, and educators.
Fourthly, it is crucial to address the social and economic challenges faced by many artists and creatives, including precarious working conditions, lack of job security, and limited access to healthcare and social services. Implementing policies that promote fair compensation, intellectual property protection, and social safety nets can help alleviate these concerns and enable creatives to focus on their craft.
Lastly, promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the creative sector is essential for ensuring that a wide range of voices, perspectives, and experiences are represented. This can be achieved by providing opportunities for underrepresented groups, such as women, people of color, and individuals with disabilities, to access resources, training, and platforms for showcasing their work.
By adopting a comprehensive and inclusive approach, society can create an environment that nurtures artistic expression, innovation, and entrepreneurship, ultimately contributing to a vibrant, diverse, and thriving creative ecosystem that benefits us all.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
