We were lucky to catch up with Kara Waters recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kara, thanks for joining us today. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
I absolutely love being an artist and a creative! In my early adulthood, as a former people-pleaser and rule-follower, I tried to take the traditional route. I earned a Bachelor’s degree and completed half of a Master’s degree in Social Work at the University of Georgia. I spent a few years working as a social worker. While there were parts I genuinely enjoyed and so much I learned, I realized pretty quickly that it wasn’t the life I was called to live.
Even so, I still use those skills and insights daily to encourage and support the people I meet. Plus, I met my husband and so many wonderful friends during that season, so I have zero regrets.
I’m beyond grateful that God eventually led me to take the leap — to let go of the “safe” path and pursue the creative work He placed in my heart. Today, I create oil paintings, write and sing songs, and author journals and books that inspire others to discover and live out their God-given purposes too!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Above all else, I’m a devoted follower of Jesus! I’m a creative through and through — a singer, songwriter, hairstylist, and an oil painter and mixed media artist.
At this time, my focus is on my art. You can find my paintings at KaraWatersArt.com. My work blends abstract and figurative art, featuring women, animals, and nature, and often incorporates rich 3D textures using marble paste, cold wax medium, metallic leaf, and other mixed media elements.
My songs are also available on major streaming platforms like Spotify, iTunes, and iHeartRadio.
I’m so thankful that God continues to inspire and use every part of my creativity to encourage others — helping them see themselves through His eyes, embrace their authentic identity, and boldly pursue the purposes He placed inside them!
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
As entrepreneurs running several businesses, my husband and I are passionate readers — especially when it comes to business and personal development. Along with the incredible wisdom and guidance we receive from reading the Bible, we’ve also gained a wealth of business knowledge from amazing mentors like Myron Golden, Elli Milan, Omar Elkhatib, and many others.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I believe our ultimate purpose in life is to receive God’s unconditional love and to love Him in return. As we rest in His acceptance and limitless love, we begin to step into who we were truly created to be. From that place, we start walking with God in our purpose and find the courage to create in the ways we were meant to.
Because we’re made in the image of the Creator, creating isn’t just an activity — it’s a healing process. When we allow God’s creativity to flow through us, our work can become a source of healing, encouragement, and inspiration for others too.
The mission behind everything I create is simple: I want to inspire others to be their authentic selves, to boldly create and accomplish what they were made for, and to live freely, knowing they are deeply and unconditionally loved by God.
