Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kara Tenae. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kara, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The most meaningful project that I’ve ever worked on would have to be my debut EP, “Faith Over Fear” which released September 6, 2022. As talented as I am, I still would let fear paralyze my movement towards ultimate success because of past experiences in the music industry that I had to face. When I finally decided to really invest in myself and put out music, that’s when things would start to open up for me. I had to lean on my faith opposed to leaning on fear. Faith Over Fear is a depiction of everything I was feeling at the time of creating it and I used it to hold myself accountable for everything else in life I was facing and would face in the future. It means a lot to me because it’s real and everything I spoke about in it is true and was what I was living at the time.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
How I got into this industry is by simply being hungry and not ever giving up on myself. Surrounded myself with people/musicians that were doing what I was doing as well which sharpened my iron and vice versa. Even through the dark days when I feel like all of my hard work isn’t being appreciated or recognized, I still never lose faith in myself because I believe I’m great. To stay on point as an artist, I make sure that I do all it is that I can to preserve and polish myself so that it’s a good presentation when I hit the stage. Working out, vocal training, drinking lots of water and staying connected to the audience. One thing that I’m good at which is another service of mine is singing on hooks with different artists throughout the years. I have a very melodic, 90’s rnb type of voice that a lot of my peers seem to appreciate, so I have made money doing hooks and features. What I’m most proud of though is the fact that I can use the gift that God gave me to spread joy around the world. It’s truly an honor to have such a gift that is as impactful as it is. I take pride in that and would never take the responsibility for granted. I want to inspire people all over the world to go after their dreams and to never give up if it’s something they are passionate about.
How did you build your audience on social media?
How I built my audience on social media is by creating a YouTube channel singing cover songs and posting all clips on my other social media platforms like Instagram, TikTok and Facebook. I would advise anyone getting started to build their presence I’d to constantly post quality content. If it’s quality, people will gravitate towards it, they will keep watching if you consistently post.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
I feel that society can support artists better by focusing more so on the QUALITY of the material. Not focus so much on the superficial base of it all. It’s so many different genres and artists out there that are so great but aren’t getting the recognition that they deserve because it’s not pushed enough in the mainstream algorithms. Give all artists their fair share by letting the audience chose what they like as well instead of having to settle for what mainstream pushes to the masses.
