Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kara Powell. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Kara, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?

Almost 15 years ago, I started my photography business. I was looking for a place that moms could come to feel comfortable. They could share their stories, talk about their kids and if they were struggling with infertility like I was; find a friend who would listen.
Fifteen years later – 90% of my client’s come to me because I share my story of struggle on my website. Families come in a lot of different forms. Love is the common bond.

Kara Powell Photography is located in The Woodlands, TX but serves all of Houston. Kara Powell Photography specializes in capturing your growing family.

Families are born in all kinds of ways these days. My husband and I endured years of infertility to make our sweet family. Other families may be made through adoption, surrogacy, foster care or medical measures. No matter what your family’s story is; I can not wait to hear all about it. Rest assured that I know a little bit about your difficult journey and I pray that your journey will have the fruitful ending you are wishing for.

If one door is shut; another one will be opened.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

Want to know a few tid-bits about me? Well, let’s see. I’m a horned frog. I LOVE yoga pants and super fancy ball gowns, go figure! I adore al fresco dining, traveling to new places. I have two education degrees and some say I’m the most patient person they have ever met. My all time favorites? My boys! Including my dog and new Covid kitty. I love them more than anything.

I have earned the nickname the Baby Whisperer by doing fourteen years of newborn sessions. I love to shop at fellow small businesses. #shoplocal! And I am a fierce advocate for the infertility community.

I started my photography journey in elementary school (way back when). Photography was always on my mind through many years (even two education degrees). I went full time with my business in 2009.

Our clean and classic style will last the test of time. Kara Powell Photography has now been in business for fourteen years. It is a family portrait studio that helps busy parents cut down on the time portrait sessions take. Because we area full service studio helping the whole time with locations, what to wear, wall art selections and ever help with art installations.

Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?

I find that I am very old fashioned when it comes to keeping in touch with clients. And my clients love it. I spend a lot of time on the phone. I know! On the phone talking to people.
My son thinks I’m old.
I love calling my clients and checking in with them. Making sure they are doing well; if I haven’t heard from them in awhile. Or just calling to see how they are doing.
I think it is a great way to get some “facetime”.
Sometimes they don’t pick up. But that is ok too. Just leave a message.
And another great thing. If you are having a slight disagreement with a client. Call them.
You would be surprised that most of the time – it is just a misunderstanding. Calling clears it all up.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?

Slow and steady. I think for me, I have to remind myself that nothing will grow overnight. So I have to remind myself that what I am doing is good for me and it is working just as it should.
So slow growth is good growth.
Word of mouth, SEO, social media and blogging have all been great things for me. But they have not been overnight success. It has taken years to get there.
A lot of people want to be famous overnight. And that does not happen to many people. I wish it did.
