We recently connected with Kara Daniels and have shared our conversation below.
Kara, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
I wanted a name that was infused with nature and earthy connections. Something that included the lore and magic of a forest, that was all encompassing and would represent the combined forces of earth and spirit. It’s not incredibly magical how I came up with Deep Root Connections. I held several brainstorming events with my family and I knew I needed something earthy, solid and stable, that could withstand the winds of change and something that would represent the deep connection to earth that I hold.
While I was brainstorming, all I could think about was trees and how they root into the ground. How strong an ancient tree stands and how earthy and magical an old growth forest feels. Deep Root Connections sort of spilled out one day during a brainstorming event, and while I didn’t have the full scope of what it would eventually represent, I knew the name was right on target for whatever we would withstand together. The name is truly an ode to the trees that hold ancient wisdom and guidance, deeply connecting us to earth and spirit.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m Kara, founder of Deep Root Connections. I intuitively and psychically connect with animals, nature and Spirit. It’s my ultimate goal, to help you connect with animals and nature too, in the most down to earth way!
It’s always been about nature for me. From the moment I was born, I was deeply rooted into the earth with an innate love for animals and nature. I was a natural born wild child, running free with dirty feet and wild hair. My entire life has been spent exploring the wonders of the natural world and leaning on that relationship to keep me grounded in a world that can be hard to navigate. I’ve always sought wisdom from the trees and considered the wild animals my best friends.
I approach life through a holistic lens, blending ancient practices with modern sciences, merging the physical with the mystical. This combination creates balanced and harmonious healing and deep connection with all living things.
I offer animal communication, land and home healing, garden consultations and workshops to help you learn how to connect yourself! I believe that each one of us holds the innate ability to communicate, co-create, and heal by collaborating with all life, seen and unseen including nature spirits and physical beings (such as trees) living alongside us.
It is my goal to help you commune with the unseen realms, co-create and heal with your animals, lands and home. Ultimately, supporting you as you develop a deeper connection to the place in which you live.
I’m passionate about helping people find their way back to the earth through reconnecting to the dirt beneath their feet, the microbes in the soils, the wind upon their face and ultimately finding their roots. This helps them feel more grounded, whole and connected to the world and themselves. For more experienced nature enthusiasts and intuitives that want to go deeper into the energetic realms, I help you learn how to communicate telepathically and energetically with animals and nature, work with the consciousness of earth and ultimately, how to co-create and expand your consciousness and overall well-being.
Each month, I hold workshops to help you reconnect with your intuitive senses, ground your energy into your body and the earth, and offer several how-to workshops including: animal communication, nature spirit connection, meet your spirit guides and much more. This all comes together to create the ultimate healing approach combining earth and spirit.
In addition, I conduct land, home and garden readings to clear stagnant or toxic energies, attune your space with your intentions, and help you foster a deeper connection to the earth in a manner that feels right for you.
By being fully connected to your body and rooted into the earth, you can learn how to communicate with animals, nature spirits and your personal spirit guides for a deeper connection to self and place. It always comes back into the earthly flow of Mother Gaia, always.
No matter where you are coming from, whether you are new to dipping your toes into the waters, or an experienced outdoor/intuitive person, there is a space for you in my community! I believe that we are stronger together through community connections and I offer a space to share and learn from each other.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Fear just about crippled me in the first few years running Deep Root Connections. Fear of failure, fear of being seen, fear of being considered a cuckoo, but mostly, fear of fully owning myself and stepping into my truest, most authentic self. That was the scariest part of it all.
There were times, where I would stop in my tracks, my heart would restrict and I wanted nothing more than to give up, crawl under a rock and hide. I wanted to call it quits because that seemed like the safest route compared to feeling who I am deep down inside and really owning it.
The thing about working through your heart and following your passion, is that you must be true to yourself and step into your most authentic version or else it just doesn’t work. I knew I was on the right path, but I had several hurdles to get over first.
I’m one of those people who hid my true self from a very young age, turning into a chameleon to survive life in society. As an empath, I was always ‘too sensitive’ for my own good and the ‘weird one’ who cared too much about animals and nature. I learned how to suppress myself to fit in.
As an adult, I would much rather hide in the shadows, than have a spotlight on me, but you can’t hide when you are a one person business and learning how to step out from the shadows with my authentic self, shining brightly, was the scariest thing I’ve ever had to do.
I had to learn how to navigate these fears or else I wouldn’t make it and I refused to go back to a “normal” job, especially when I knew this was my soul’s calling. I couldn’t give up on myself, I wouldn’t.
These thoughts kept swirling around my mind:
Who am I to take up space and feel worthy of being seen?
Who am I to stand forward in front of a crowd and share my knowledge?
Who am I to think that I have something to offer the world, of substance and value?
I kept myself small, barley creeping out enough to make ends meet. I kept myself hidden as much as I could to feel safe. I wouldn’t give up on myself though, and by going deep into my own inner wounds and traumas, healed that part of myself and accepted myself for who I truly am inside which has been the most liberating part of this journey yet.
Clients come to me after working together, and say they admire that I am showing up in the world authentically, that I inspire them to do the same. For the first time in my life, it feels so good to be me because I know I am making a difference in the lives of others and get to follow my passions while doing so.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I spent three years as an animal communicator thinking I landed right where I needed to be in this world. I had a solid clientele, I was feeling confident in my business and was working diligently giving pets a voice, but eventually, things started feeling a bit off within my heart.
Between client calls, I found myself staring out my window wishing to be in the forest or the garden. I began talking to the bees in my garden and the nesting birds in the trees to see if they needed anything I hadn’t offered in the microhabitat I was creating. I found myself longing to be outside, instead of in my office talking to people’s pets. Don’t get me wrong, I love working with pets and their parents, but as someone who is so deeply enmeshed in the wild, I needed to find a way to combine what I was doing and bring it back into nature or else I was going to burn out, and fail.
At that point, I could feel the trees calling me, urging me to take a break and find my way into the forest, but I didn’t have time. Luckily, they were relentless. If you’ve ever heard the quote by John Muir, “the mountains are calling and I must go,” then you’ll know what I mean… It’s a call that cannot be ignored. Your soul aches with something unexplainable, there’s a magnetic pull within your heart and until that desire is satisfied, the ache remains. I didn’t know why, but I knew I needed some mountain and more specifically, tree time.
I cleared my schedule, went out to the forest to heed the calling and it wasn’t long before I felt an urge to sit by a tree that called me in like a beacon. That’s when it happened! The tree began communicating with me.
A gentle, masculine voice seeped into my head with the most loving energy. I was enveloped by his essence and energy as if he were giving me a hug. I felt like I had just met a friend from long ago, one that I couldn’t remember, but knew on a soul level.
My perception of the world shattered, quite literally like a glass wall. The glass wall I had been looking through my entire life, shielded what was right in front of me, and this tree communicating with me, obliterated it. My reality changed in an instant and I couldn’t have been more excited. I’ve spent my entire life bebopping around the forest, but this was a first.
I could talk to trees! WHAT?! My first thought was, “Why isn’t anyone talking about this?! Animals, of course that makes sense, but trees?!
I began interviewing trees alongside wildlife, and soon fairies, gnomes and others from the devic realm made themselves known. I began re-learning how to work with wild animal guides and their unique medicine they energetically offer us and so much more.
Realizing I am a bridge between the unseen realms and the physical, my heart soared with excitement! I knew this as a child, in the depths of my soul, I just, somehow, forgot along the way. The fire in my soul was ignited and ready to get to work.
The beings I was communing with began teaching me how to heal the land energetically, the ins and outs of earth energies, and how to combine physical healing with energetic healing. I learned that much like the human body, the earth has a physical layer and many energetic layers all needing to be healed. You can’t just heal the physical body, without healing the energetic body also or else the healing won’t be complete.
I began energetically reading and clearing garden spaces, land, and homes for others, designing meditation gardens and collaborating with the nature spirits to really get a feel for things. Since then, I have dedicated myself to sharing the messages of the wild and unseen realms with the world and teaching others how to communicate and heal too! The goal is to co-create, co-exist and heal by mixing the physical with the mystical and live a magical life while doing so. It is possible!
If there is someone out there like me, who would flourish on this path, I want to make sure they know that this is a possibility. I lost a lot of clients in the shift, but those who understood, stuck with me. The rebuilding process was scary as I stepped further into the unknown, but it felt so much more aligned and fluid than ever before. So I shifted my focus from solely animal communication, to bring it full circle and back to the earth.
Deep Root Connections has ever since been dedicated to helping people connect to nature in this fashion by combining the practical with the magical to heal the earth and ourselves, because in the end, it always comes back to nature and the magic is just beyond the clear, glass wall.
