We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kara Cope. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kara below.
Kara , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I was fortunate to have guidance from a fundraiser that was with the rescue. I learned to tap my people skills and incorporate my love for dogs into successful fundraising by putting myself out there even though sometimes it’s difficult to navigate where and whom will donate and support our cause.

Kara , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Rocky Mtn. Great Dane Rescue is a 501c3 non profit that has worked diligently to get their brand out into the rescue world. The rescue is run by volunteers with a 6 person board of directors. We cover 13 states and we have no overhead as the volunteers work from home doing adoption applications and communicating with various shelters along with other stages of providing care for these wonderful creatures. The rescue relies on monetary donations to provide support for the Great Danes and Dane mixes that are pulled from shelters and also voluntary owner surrenders. We provide medical assistance, veterinary services (spay/neuter, vaccinations) and also foster homes either temporary or long term for some of the medical fosters that cannot be adopted out. We rehome Danes that have been abandoned, abused and neglected through no fault of their own with our main goal being to get that dog into its perfect forever home. The rescue gives me free rein to raise funds through various fun and exciting activities that we plan throughout the year. All proceeds go directly to the rescue to provide the support the Danes need. We have adopted out over 2,600 Danes since the rescue’s inception in the year 2000.
Our website displays the available Danes for adoption and the dogs change frequently as the Danes gain their forever homes. Rmgreatdane.org.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
RMGDRI is a respected and responsible rescue that strives to match people’s lifestyle with the personality of the available Dane. We want the adoption to go as easy as possible and be the right fit for both the family and the Dane. We have a process that we adhere to where we have a phone interview, an in person homecheck interview along with checking references from vets, friends and colleagues. We vet the adopting family and have clear communication with them regarding any special concerns or special needs that may come into play for both Dane and adopters. Once the adoption is completed we are also there to assist with questions, training, behavior specialists or anything specific to the situation at hand. We want to support the adoption process even after it’s completed if necessary. Our main goal to is to help find viable and perfect matches for a forever home for our adoptable Danes.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
RMGDRI has a large online presence. We have 2 platforms (IG and FB) that we share info on the daily of foster homes that are needed, adoptable Danes, success stories along with posting all fundraising events. Our volunteers share them on their personal pages and we have devoted followers that make our events successful. Our volunteers are amazing! They come together on social media to boost posts, share stories and share events so we can reach many people that may be interested in adopting a Great Dane.
Our success is shared across the board.
