We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kara Beavers a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Kara, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
At KARAMEDIA, my mission is simple yet profound: to infuse confidence into the lives of those who work with me. I go beyond enhancing brands; I try to empower individuals to embrace their true potential and identity. Whether through captivating photos, compelling websites, or innovative design solutions, my goal is for every client to leave with a renewed sense of confidence in both their brand and themselves. Your success is my success, and I am here to elevate you every step of the way. My purpose is to genuinely bring joy into people’s lives, and I do that through building them up when I work with them. There is no greater purpose!
Kara, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hey there, I’m Kara—a passionate digital artist with a diverse background spanning marketing, graphic design, and photography. My journey into the creative realm began in 2010 during my college years, where my initial step into photography ignited a profound love for all things design.
Following my graduation from Shepherd University, I embarked on a dynamic career path, honing my skills in graphic design and marketing across a spectrum of industries. From photography studios to art studios, equipment companies to iHeart Radio in DC, each experience enriched my craft and fueled my entrepreneurial spirit.
After years immersed in the corporate world, I decided to pursue my childhood dream of running my own business full-time—a dream that traces back to my entrepreneurial ventures at just 10 years old, when I started a friendship bracelet/hair wrap company for 10 cents an inch. LOL.
Today, through KARAMEDIA, I offer a comprehensive suite of services spanning website design, brand identity, and photography. But beyond creating stunning projects, my true purpose lies in uplifting others and infusing joy into their lives through collaborative work on their brands.
When you choose to work with me, it’s not just about the project—it’s about forging a lasting connection. I’m here to support and guide you every step of the way, whether it’s brainstorming over coffee or offering ongoing assistance long after the project is complete.
Outside of work, I’m happily married to my hot husband Luke, and together, we share our lives with our beloved fur baby, Rocky Mountains Beavers. We’re avid travelers, love tattoos, and are always seeking new adventures and experiences to enrich our lives.
Grateful for every moment, I cherish the journey and the opportunity to create, connect, and inspire others along the way.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Just four months after taking the leap to pursue my business full-time, my husband found himself leaving a toxic workplace, unexpectedly thrusting us into a period of uncertainty. Despite his unparalleled work ethic, the situation left him temporarily unemployed. Knowing the severity of his decision to leave, we faced a daunting reality: no benefits, no safety net, my business was brand SPANKIN new and still building.
In the face of adversity, we refused to succumb to fear. With resilience and determination, I took on additional projects and photoshoots, and we even joined forces to DoorDash together. We maintained our financial responsibilities, never faltering on mortgage or car payments.
Guided by our faith in the Lord and fueled by unwavering determination, we weathered those challenging two months. Today, my business is flourishing, no longer reliant on supplementary income. And my husband has found a fulfilling job—one he envisions retiring from someday.
That season of hardship tested our limits, but through perseverance and mutual support, we emerged stronger than ever. Together, we navigated the storm and emerged victorious on the other side.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I’ve had to shift my mindset, learning that not every person will resonate with my work, and that’s perfectly okay. As someone who finds joy in making others happy, especially through my creations, it’s natural to want universal approval. Yet, I’ve come to accept that it’s impossible to please everyone. (A hard pill to swallow)! lol.
In the early stages of my career, particularly in graphic design, negative feedback would hit me hard. I vividly recall crying over a logo rejection (yes, really!). But over time, I’ve learned to embrace criticism with grace. Instead of dwelling on it, I use it as fuel to improve and better align with my clients’ visions.
While I always pour my heart and soul into every project, I understand that there will be instances where my work may not resonate with everyone. And that’s okay. It’s all part of the journey toward growth and mastery.
