We were lucky to catch up with KANESHA LEACH-PETELO recently and have shared our conversation below.
KANESHA, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
I am the owner of a at home baking business named: KP’s Blessed Bakery Bites. The “KP” is for my name: Kanesha Petelo. As for the “Blessed Bakery Bites” that steams from how the business got started. To be honest, I would consider myself a late coming to the world of baking.
The title is a reminded to me of just how blessed I am. Blessed to be in this world, blessed to be able to create via food. Blessed to be given a chance to delight people through desserts.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Many years back when i just dating my now husband; Vaitui : I was asked by a friend of his to help out at a catering event for a local church. Wanting to be the “best girlfriend” I obviously said “yes”. I was then given the task of baking a cake. At that time; other than an easy bake over when I was eight, I have never baked anything but the recipe looks simple enough, so I figured why not. I remember mixing all the ingredients and once I had my battier; I was reminded of the days I use to watch my mother bake and remembered that she use to taste the battier before baking it. So, I did that. And to me the battier was missing something. So, after ensuring no one was looking I have a few extra ingredients to my battier.
When it came time for the guest to taste; I was so nervous. “What it taste awful?” or “What if they noticed the changes I made. Would I get in trouble? Would by boyfriend?
Sure enough the guest DID notice a difference but the difference…actually MADE all the difference. Listening to people praise something that I created woke up a sleeping dragon of creativity that been laying dormant since my college years. In college I thought i was going to be this amazing writer for TV film and Commercial but that did happen. This left such void in my heart to be creative and expressive. After baking that first cake; show me that I still had a come creative express left . I feel blessed for all the twist and turns in life that brought me to that church event that day.

Can you share one of your favorite marketing or sales stories?
This questions bring me to a specific moment for Blessed Bakery. One was when I was out of town visiting family and was driving back to the Charleston area. While in the car I got message from a guys asking if could place a order for cupcakes for his pregnant wife. At first, I thought, “I’m driving, it still at least another hour and a half before I make it home then I still have to bake…” so I was about to say no. Before I could answer; the guy asked again; staying.. “I looked online and you are the only bakery open after six; please my wife is craving some strawberry cake.” Who was I to say no to a pregnant lady. So after making a three hour drive home; I quickly went into the kitchen and worked baking a half dozen Strawberry cupcakes for a customer in Cane Bay. Was it profitable to rush home, bake and drive to Cane Bay to deliver six cupcakes….Not one bit… but being able to create this memory/moment for the couple was priceless.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Word of mouth! I am just one baker making treats from my home; looking to deliver tasty treats at an affordable price. I don’t have commercial money or a team of marketing genius…so I take to Facebook and trust the food will speak for itself. And so far it has.
