We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kandy Mckain. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kandy below.
Kandy, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Success is, quite simply, the accomplishment of a predetermined goal. We consciously or subconsciously set for ourselves. For every person it is different. what i think it takes to be successful is discipline & commitment, I’ve had so many times as an entrepreneur I constantly wanted to give up but I was committed to my goals to be successful in my business; by writing it all down, being realistic with my self and speaking life into it, with commitment comes disciple; to do the work, keep educating, and staying focused even when you have to do your least favorite things in your business.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Kandy and my Business is BakedByKandy. I am a Pro makeup artist and licensed Esthetician Located in Altamonte Springs FL. Growing up I was always in love with makeup but as a teen in a strict household I could never wear it until college. In college I met a few drag queens and my world was never the same. That kicked off my makeup journey and I managed a Sephora for 6 years, from there my love of skin and skincare started to blossom and in January 2020 I decided to get my esthetician license. During the pandemic I stared my business plan finished school and was finally ready to take a leap of faith and BakedbyKandy was born. As for services I specialize in Facials, Soft & bold Glams, bridal, & photo-shoots, My goal is to make you feel beautifully you with or without makeup. I am a makeup artist that truly cares about you & your skin.
We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
I used to always do makeup for family and friends in college. I didn’t take it serious because I wasnt a pro i just watched a lot of videos and i had the smallest kit ever. but after I graduated college I got placed in a Jcpenny as a stylist but i spent to much time in the Sephora there eventually one of the managers asked if I wanted to come on board. My kit began to grow and I was getting so much training at work that I got certified to be a makeup artist. Our store couldn’t take many appointments so i started doing makeup on the side when I wasn’t working and my days off till years later i grew my own clientele. so when I left Sephora they came with me. so now instead of sephora getting paid for all my makeup-overs 100% of it comes to me. The biggest thing I will take from this is put yourself out there, until your are able to go full time start with it on the side, get into connections that can benefit your business. And don’t give up!

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Networking, word of mouth, and social media. You are your brand and no one will promote you like you. I started to go to networking events and stayed consistent with my social media accounts.
