Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kandace Kichler. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kandace, appreciate you joining us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
Every decision you make in life comes with some kind of risk. Choosing to change my career from a General and Bariatric Surgeon to a Cosmetic Plastic Surgeon definitely falls into this category. I had from the outside a perfect setup. And I was not unhappy with my career. But the opportunity to train and expand my practice to the field of Cosmetic Surgery was not only a dream but what seemed destined for me. As an artistically inclined surgeon who focused on aesthetic outcomes, it seemed only fitting for me to make this jump and transform my life and career for the better. I am so happy and have not looked back!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I grew up on a farm in Alabama, and things changed rapidly once I started schooling. Having always known that I wanted to be a doctor, that path was rather straightforward. Once I got into medical school, I was inclined and felt the immediate drive, desire and calling to be a surgeon. Having an interest in health and nutrition, and several mentors in the field, I first embarked upon General Surgery residency with the University of Miami, then a fellowship in Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery at Cleveland Clinic Florida. I started practice and during my first several years opened up a Medical Spa with my partner Lori Anthony, PA. It was the exposure here where I really started my aesthetic career. The interest bloomed and then I was offered a Cosmetic Surgery Fellowship with the esteemed Hass Plastic Surgery. I completed training then joined on, and the rest is history.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
The Almanac of Naval Ravikant is one of my top favorite reads as of late. It’s inspiring, thought provoking, and taps into ALL areas of life. There are so many pro tips I keep it on my nightstand to reference when I’m needing a little inspiration.
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
Kindness. Responsibility. and Work Ethic. If you aren’t nice to people, responsive and there when needed. you will not have near the success you desire.
