We were lucky to catch up with Kamyra Ndango recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kamyra , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear your thoughts about family businesses.
Having a family business has many benefits. It allows you to spend time with your family outside of normal life and routine . For me personally , it helps teach my kids the value of life . Being a business owner comes with freedom . Most of the time . Being able to work for my selfs allows me to be present more in my kids life and activities. Now that my youngest child is 5, I am Able to bring all 3 of my kids to work with me on our dessert tuck. I have a teenanger who loves to help work our window , give new ideas for our menu. The little ones love to hand out and attract customers. It shows them that if they work hard , they can make a living doing what they enjoy with the people they love.

Kamyra , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a mother of 3 , food truck owner and professional boxer . We relocated our family and business from Nebraska to Texas in 2021 after opening up the truck in 2020 during Covid . The business has been operating since 2016 for catering events and parties. We started off as serving tasty unique slushes topped with fresh fruit and candy . Sweet 16s we’re our specialties , we would make them one by one right there on the spot . One of our signature we always top off our slushes is a umbrella and sometimes led ring lights inside .
During Covid we opened up our truck and we added carnival style desserts. Customers were able to cure their sweet tooth in one stop. We pride our self in our flavors of our slushies and lemonade . They are bold and very tasty . We make all of our desserts with love fresh each order . Our favorite part about having the business is the customer’s reactions to our fun menu and tasty desserts.
Our proudest moment is moving to Houston Texas . One of the most known cities for good eats , we are happy to be apart of it . We look forward to growing in 2025
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
My business started as a side hustle in 2016 . I just started making slushes with all different kind of flavors and candies at home . My friends would come over and taste test for me . They would always post on Facebook and others would wonder where the drink came From. That’s when the idea to sell them came . I started selling out of my home from orders of Facebook. Within a few weekends , sales became overwhelming my friends weren’t coming to taste test anymore . But to help make and deliver orders around our city . My uncle bought a bbq truck and would park in a empty lot to sell his food . He allowed me to come sell my slushys next to him. I would make them and put them in Coolers and sit up right next to his food truck . Then bookings started coming in for sweet 16s and community events. It was always still a side hustle but I knew one day I would want to do it full time . 2020 comes around and the world shuts down along with restaurants and fast food . We continued to sell and sold out everyday . We the Bought a trailer and converted into a slushy truck and the rest was history !
