We caught up with the brilliant and insightful KamWood a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
KamWood, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
When it comes to learning the craft of recording a song i can remember a time when me and my friends first took an attempt at making our first song. back in middles school i use to have this karaoke tape player. it came with a mic and two slots for tapes. one side we would put the instrumental tape in and the other side we would use a blank tape to record everything. by it being our first time it took us forever to get the song done because you could not mess up. if you said the wrong word we would have to start the recording process all over from the top. thank god for computers and DAW’s. one mess up can easily be deleted and replace without having to do it all over.
KamWood, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Kamwood, rapper/producer from Lansing,MI. i fell in love with hiphop in my early years like 6 or 7 years old. i also always love to entertain. my favorite person to mimic was Micheal Jackson. i would dance in front of all my moms friends at get togethers. the first rap song i ver recited was LLCool J “Im Bad”. i can remember my mom asking me to play whatever song i wanted when she picked me up from school. i would immediately play that tape. after that i would always secretively write songs in my room and perform in front of the mirror. fast forward now i have my own personal studio and manage a professional studio in East Lansing called “Risky Studios”. I have my Bachelors of Science in Music Business degree. i freelance music videos, photography and graphic designs for clients. on top of all that i have several musical projects out of my own. i recently released two EP’s in 2022 called “Chapter 33 and Chapter 33 part 2”. currently i am working on a project with fellow Risky member C Mighty. We have a double disc release coming very soon.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
my mission is to build a community that believes in doing the right thing. i am a man of faith and believe in god. i want my followers to understand that the word is here to help us live heaven on earth. i will not promote hatred nor killing in my music. i only want to uplift and inspire the next man/woman to believe that they to can live a fulfilled life.
How did you build your audience on social media?
the advice i can give when building an audience is to be consistent with progression. it always starts with lack of attention but once they see that you are not going to stop you eventually start to gain peoples attention. remember this is a marathon, if you love doing what you do it should not matter how many followers you have. just stay focused on the mission at hand.
