Kamree, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
Both of my parents have been an inspiration for me in their own ways. My mom was a beautician, so the importance of taking care of my skin and hair was taught at a very young age!
My dad is resilient when it comes to life and entrepreneurship. He has given me the mindset of I can achieve any dream I may have and it’s never too late to start.
It’s funny because I often say my parents did a great job raising me lol! But I am so serious, thanks to them I am both beauty and business minded!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I have always been the go-to friend when it came to skincare recommendations and or advice. My earliest memory of me taking an interest in skincare is when I was 7 years old. I, for some reason, had a subscription to Seventeen Magazine and inside one of those magazines was an article on how to make your own face mask!
While my parents were sleeping, I took a pack of strawberry oatmeal and God knows what else! Mixed it all together, applied my creation and washed it off to reveal my results. Voilà, a face full of red, tiny irritated bumps! I ran into my parent’s room crying about my skincare mishap. That was a D.I.Y don’t!
Thankfully, that didn’t stir me away from my love of skincare. Fast-forward I’m in college for fashion merchandising. I had a dream of becoming a fashion buyer. While studying, I worked as a beauty consultant.
Helping and teaching clients about products and techniques came so natural for me and truly gave me joy.
Knowing that I could make an impact on someone’s life by just guiding them with their purchases gave me such a good feeling. I eventually realized I needed to make a career out of this. KamJBeauty was born!
I aim to achieve clear, healthy skin by considering lifestyle and diet. These two factors help me curate the perfect treatment plans for my clients. Everyone has unique needs when it comes to their skin, so my facials are fully customized for each of my clients. There is no one size fits all when it comes to my treatments. I specialize in skin correction, like texture and pigmentation.
I genuinely feel so grateful to be doing something I’m so passionate about. Having people who trust and believe in you with their skin is a big deal!
Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
Absolutely not! I would have got started in my profession right out of high school! At the time I didn’t think of my passion for skincare as a way to make a living. Beauty influencers weren’t really a thing and I had my mind set on other goals. Being an esthetician is so fulfilling, I would choose it again and again.
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
Besides continuing your education, mastering one skill is key. Then you can expand on that. As an esthetician you can perform a number of services, but starting off sometimes it’s best to choose the 1-2 you want to specialize in and be the best you can be with that! What’s the use of being a jack of all trades and a master of none? I think that’s a key factor in succeeding in pretty much any field.
