We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kammie Semien. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kammie below.
Kammie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
My mission in this industry is to empower and uplift women (and men) of all ethnicities with my art. My goal is to make sure that each client is left feeling and looking their best self. I provide a serine environment for my clients that leaves them refreshed and relaxed. I pour into them why i am servicing them and beyond the chair. I build a spiritual connection with my clients and they become like family. My goal in this industry is to make sure each person knows they are seen, and they are loved.

Kammie, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a nurse and have been practicing for 15 years now. I currently still work in the medical industry. Makeup artistry came along later in my life. I am a wife and a mother of 2 daughters and i came to a point where i felt lost in it all. I wanted something that I could call my own away from wife/mom. I also wanted to use my god given gift of encouragement and love to all who need it. I started out in makeup by doing it for my godchild who at the time was in high school. I had no experience but I did my best over her span in school. When i look back my work was horrible (lol) but i had to start somewhere. A few of her friends began asking me to do their makeup as well for prom and other events so that’s how i got my start/introduction to makeup.
Now going back to what i said previously, i was a full time nurse, mom and wife who felt like i was drowning in it all and in turn had no identity myself. As wives we commonly get to that crossroads in life. I then began to talk to God and ask him to give me a hobby. Something i could have for myself and at the same time do what i love (love on people). He spoke to me and told me to do makeup! He also gave me the name to my business right at that moment.
After that i then spoke to my husband about it and had to convince him that i was serious. Once he saw the drive in me to pursue it he backed me 100%.
At the time my state required a makeup permit license and i went after it! Obtaining it merely before state board decided to stop giving permits! Boy was i blessed i made the mark! So in 2016 i was then licensed in my state and i hit the ground running.
Over the years working hard to build my clientele and my reputation of being a all around artist who could service everyone!
I provide flawless makeup applications, I do Airbrush and Traditional applications. 1 on 1 or group classes to the professional or everyday woman who just needs guidance on how to apply their own makeup. Also teaching professionals in my industry my techniques. I love educating and teaching as well!
I specialize in bridal makeup and i travel near and far.
Many people need encouragement and a positive vibe from me so i make sure to give that along with exceptional makeup applications to my clients.
I also give tips while my #kakedkuties are being serviced on their skin care regimen and makeup routine.
What sets me apart most importantly is that i know that i am doing Gods work. This was a God Given gift that i am humbled to be trusted with.
I was born to do this! In the future i hope to continue doing so and on a national level! Work behind the scenes with brands, education, travel, the sky’s the limit! I do believe that God will take me to higher heights in the beauty industry.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Staying true to my art. I refuse to edit any of my work because i want clients and future clients to really know what they are getting when they get Kaked! It is important to me. In this day and age of social media everything is edited and buffered. We don’t know the real from the fake. I strive to be as real as they come. We humans were made in Gods image and what he created was “good” so giving a client a false standard in my art is not what i do. I made sure to capture my art in real time and share in all of my platforms as much as i could. Word of mouth, and people will always remember how you made them feel. I have gained clients from all over just by how i make them feel. It’s important to be real.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I continue to work full time in the medical field. I am a full time mom with 2 busy girls.
I have a busy husband who also works full time and runs a successful small business on the side as well.
I have many clients who i service sometimes 5-6 am before i start my day and i don’t miss a beat. I am grateful to have such faithful and loyal clients and a family that supports my dreams. It is hard but when you love what you do and you know that it’s your calling it is all worth it. I plan to be full time in the industry in some capacity.
