We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kamila Alikhani. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kamila below.
Kamila, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.
Imagine walking into a room full of flowers that take your breath away just as you’ve always wished. It’s a perfect setting. Now imagine knowing that at the end of the night, our team will take care of each piece thoughtfully and properly. The Earth will be cared for and others will get to share in the breathtaking beauty you’ve just experienced, as your gently used flowers and design elements will be gifted to hospitals and shelters, rather than being tossed into already overflowing landfills.
We specialize in zero-waste floral events. We don’t just create beautiful designs, we make them in the most sustainable way possible.
The flower industry is counterintuitive because it seems to be organic, but it is one of the biggest polluters in the events business. This waste is created by excess packaging at wholesale and flowers flown from overseas. This waste is also generated through unsustainable design techniques like plastic floral foam, dyed and bleached flowers, and disregard for florals after an event- flowers are often added to the landfill without intention, rather than continually enjoyed or thoughtfully composted.

Kamila, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hi, I’m Kamila. I am a floral stylist and environmental advocate. These things became a bigger part of who I am when I first became a mom and discovered a strength, patience, power, and confidence that I never knew I had. Rising to the challenge of taking care of children gave me the unshakable belief that I could do anything I wanted. And what I wanted to do was to create beautiful spaces. I wanted to design flowers that were poetic and stylish. More importantly, I wanted to do all of this in a sustainable way. So here I am, a woman on a mission, making big and small decisions to create a space that is mindful and generous, abundant with flowers and friends.
Bloomier is a passion project that combines beauty and creative thinking to bring sustainability into floral design. At Bloomiér we ensure that less than 10% of materials used in our business go to the landfill. Every service we book goes through a values and technique check to make sure it aligns with this. In doing that, as a flower studio we offer subscription flowers delivered right to your door, styling for brands, homes, and designers, pop-up shops, wedding and event flowers, workshops and online courses, and more. We love to collaborate with clients, businesses, and our community to see joy spread through flowers in a modern, beautiful, and intentional way.

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
“Designing Your Life” by Bill Burnett and Dave Evans was both practical and encouraging. I would recommend this book to anyone who is faced with a dilemma and does not know which route to take. It helped me find a balance between work, family life, and making sure I get enough time to rest and play personally. It also helped me develop my personal perfect job description and gave me ideas on how to prototype that to find my dream job. Reading this book was the push that I needed to start Bloomiér.

We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
The main way we foster brand loyalty is to think of every step of the customer’s journey. Putting yourself in their shoes, you can make sure every step is clear, thoughtful, and that clients feel supported. When we looked through the lens of a client, we were able to develop a communication system where our clients have a personal touch in the process of experiencing the joy of flowers without compromising quality or impact on the environment.
