Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kameshia Dancy. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kameshia, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
What do I think it’s takes to be successful? I think it takes hard work, dedication, showing up even when there’s low results. The abilities to understand trial and error, utilizing your full 24 hours in a day, and working multiple jobs if it takes to make income meet the needs of your livelihood while you’re securing your place in your career!
As for myself I work 2 part time customer service jobs around my clientele schedule as it continues to grow. This allows for me to make up for short fall months, as well as securing extra funds to maintain my business needs and bills, as well as ensuring my parenting remains top tier!
Kameshia, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Kameshia Dancy raised outside of a small town Pinetops, NC.
Hair has been my passion since high school days I finally accepted the calling and completed Natural Hair Care in 2022 and licensed.
I currently work and operate a salon The Studio 1821 in Sharpsburg, NC under my amazing mentor Mrs.Natasha Alleyne. My brand GlocsbyKam is Licensed to serve Natural Hair! Those servicing are Braids, blowouts, loc care, repair maintenance and reattachments, soft locs, shampooing, scalp treatment services, as well as much more all natural hair styles for kids and adults.
I would say the discipline I use daily is consistency, waking up everyday and focusing on at least one sector of my business even when I don’t have clients booked! Mrs.Natasha has talk me that’s the most important aspect of maintaining longevity in the hair industry!
What sets me apart I feel is my products hair growth oil, oil basic scalp butter, and protein conditioner creates health coils, increase growth to alopecia and damaged areas. My clients see the growth is amazing and the result have the clients discussing and purchasing with each visit in my chair!
I’m very proud of how I got myself here today with the help of GOD, prayer, working multiple jobs, loyal clients and a daughter telling me how proud she is at the end of everyday leaves little room to give up on what you’ve started once you see your kid is watching!
I just want my future clients to know my brand GlocsbyKam is dedicated to making your hair healthy, uplifting your personality, helping you fix issues or find happiness with your current hair transition whether it’s an adult or kid!
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
Mrs.Natasha Allen over 30 years plus in the hair industry. She and Instructor and was my former educator for Natural Hair Care in 2021 at Nash CC. Upon completion I set off and began my journey working in 2 different shops within the 1st year of my license. Let just say I needed to decompress from those experiences!
Which lead me on a path of considering maybe hair isn’t for me due to the lack of growth I was gaining in the industry at first. Then I started praying and asking GOD to place the correct people in my path and less than a week later she reached out with an offer I could not turn down plus the mentoring alone was worth it for me!
Since that moment and offer the growth within myself and business has been outstanding she has definitely been a light in my hair career thus far and more to come!
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Social media is not the best marketing avenue for upcoming stylist’s.
Today’s Society has placed a huge focus on social media outlets like Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok for business owners, creators, and influencers looking to grow, gain and or attract new customers, clients or business in general.
Well I took that chance and used those media outlets for the sole purpose of giving my business exposure of my hair styles, work result and client’s stories. It derailed and was not what I hoped it would be! The lack of support send me into a place, it made me feel like my business wasn’t good enough for a moment and it even made you compare yourself to others you visibly could see did not see giving off the same talent as you but stayed booked! That’s when I decide to take a break deactivated and focus on the marketing outside of social media.
Growing within your salon business and team is so much easier and better then fishing for likes and clients on social media that’s what I learned and since then I just post my work and keep it moving I do not give the likes and shares my energy anymore they are not the focus point. Gaining new clients weekly and converting them into regulars are the goals now!
