We were lucky to catch up with Kameron Walker recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Kameron thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
A time I took a risk was when I worked recently as an art handler. as most emerging artist who started in that career field, art handling had showed me a perspective behind the scenes of the art world I never would’ve thought to see. however. I had realized my place there was soon to be stagnant. where in the grand scheme of things the low hierarchy of being an art handler left me on the sidelines as an artist. where I would install and deinstall a piece of art, being then told to step aside as curators admire the greatness of another artist’s work. from then on, I always thought bigger and knew I wanted more, so I had sacrificed my job to receive a call from a local art dealer in discussion of a winter exhibition in December. it can be scary at times as an artist not knowing when to go for an opportunity or the result of what taking a risk may bring you especially in cost of your only income, but my advice to my artist community would be to risk it all the time, even in failure risk it again and again and never loses sight of the things your heart desires.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
my name is Kameron walker. I’m a young and emerging contemporary artist. from Dallas- Fort Worth who’s love for art thrives in my paintings. Being brought up throughout school art was the only subject I truly excelled in my work and from that I always knew my gifted talents would take me to places far more international than ever before. what sets me apart from others is that fact that I’ve always continued to think bigger as an artist desiring to one day continue my practices throughout Paris, France as well as other locations around the world exhibiting my work internationally into the art market. with many supporters in my artist community, and potential collectors and galleries watching my growth develop I can say I’m most proud of my push-forward attitude as well as the never-before-seen opportunities that lie awaits in my career.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
throughout my journey there have been many instances where the trials and tribulations and setbacks in life should’ve stopped me from creating. but, because of my ambitious motives to be better despite any situation I’ve been in, I’ve stayed in the studio consistently. committed to reaching my goals, my devotion to art itself has never change in my artistic practices. so, to reach a new level in my career that brings me that recognition is what drives me to keep producing as an artist.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
as an advocate for my fellow artists, I believe that more people should invest in artist in many ways. that being buying art primarily and allowing for more available opportunities without any limited restrictions for residencies, grants and open call exhibitions to be award to artists. as well as more curators taking a chance on more upcoming talent.
