We were lucky to catch up with Kameron Reed recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kameron, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Commitment, discipline, accountability and being flexible with changes. To have a successful business, I think it takes having a clear vision of what you want.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Kameron and I am a Hair Artist. My professional name is Kam the Hair Artist. I am a Paul Mitchell graduate and began my professional career 5 years ago. I started working in commission based salons and have been a freelance hair stylist for the last 2 years.
I specialize in color, natural hair, and natural looking extensions. I am proud of the hairstylist I’ve become and I’m confident in my ability to care for your hair. Although it’s good to keep up with trends, I care most about your natural hair. I am a skilled expert in hair growth and custom color without having to bleach your hair. My brand is about enhancing what you have, not covering it up. I want my clients to feel confident about what they naturally have going on.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Instagram and referrals have worked very well for me, in terms of a source for new clients. The best source for new clients is social media.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I’ve had a passion for hair since I was a kid, and am now approaching my first year as a full time hairstylist. Right before I made the decision to go full time, my biggest supporter, Barbara Reed transitioned. My lovely mother supported me in everything major concerning my life. Whether it was keeping my children while I worked, or soft encouraging words that kept me going, she was always there for me. The time that I sacrificed to become the stylist I am today, she sacrificed more helping me in every way that she could. It’s been difficult without her, but my mother’s character and everything she taught me won’t allow me to quit. I want to make my mother proud of who I’ve become and I want my brand to reflect her character.
