Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kameelah Muhammad. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kameelah, appreciate you joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The most meaningful project I have worked on is being a photographer for the Alzheimer’s walk in Liberty Mo. I have been in partnership with them for two years and I truly love it as this is something that I hold close to my heart. My sister in law reached out to me and asked me if I offer my photography services in a volunteer aspect. Which I told her YES! I have always believed in giving back my time especially when its a cause that affects so many people and families. Alzheimer’s is a disease that has also affected my family from my great uncle to my grandmother its such a horrible disease that I hope one day a cure will be found.

Kameelah, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I have always loved pictures ever since my grandmothers old Polaroid camera and later her Kodak camera(you know the one that took film cartridges). I learned how to develop film! In 2016 I finally decided to purchase my own camera and take up photography as a hobby however life chose to take me and my camera down a different path. In Dec of 2016 I lost my older brother to gun violence. The type of pain from losing a sibling is unimaginable – grief was so overwhelming so one day while going through my phone looking for pictures to add to his funeral program, I was amazed at how many pictures I had of him! I had as many of him as I had of myself and even my son! The memories came flooding to me of happier times before my lost. But I could still not pick up my camera. That is until after his funeral when I had a dream about him – in this dream we were riding around Kansas City and I had my camera taking pictures. His words in my dream were “You are good at what you do – this is your gift so use it”. I woke up and knew then and there that I wanted to help others capture their memories in still format and while doing that it also helped with my grief! This was also how I came up with my company name – Nur Vizion Photography. Nur is Arabic for light and Vizion was part of my brother business name Omar’s Vizion Tattoo. Its a way of keeping his legacy alive and a shout out to him!
I provide portrait, wedding, engagement, and boudoir photography. With all of my sessions I make it a point to get to know my clients. I have a consult prior to their shoot day so that I can get an idea of their goal for their session. I like to go over all aspects of the shoot and what they can expect. My goal is to make them feel as comfortable as possible before our session so that way when we are shooting it will all go effortlessly. Many of my clients have never taken professional pictures before and those are the best clients to have because when they see the finished results their reaction is everything. Getting messages from my clients telling me how much they enjoy their images or how they were not expecting the images to come out the way they did because in their mind they are so non photogenic pushes me to keep doing what I love which is photography and bringing smiles to their faces. I want my clients and potential clients to know, understand, and feel the story that I tell by bringing their vizion(vision) to life. My pictures talk to you!

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist or creative because with photography its both is capturing moments in still and telling a story that is clear that is inviting that is concise. All of my clients say the same thing: My pictures tell a story and thats why they choose me to tell theirs.

Can you share your view on NFTs? (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
I honestly think that NFT’s are a good way to get my work out to more people however I feel that it should be easier. Ive read where most require that you be invited in order to sell.
