We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ka’Mel Lauryn. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ka’Mel below.
Ka’Mel, appreciate you joining us today. Innovation comes in all shapes, sizes and across all industries, so we’d love to hear about something you’ve done that you feel was particularly innovative.
I created a festival “Rare Dreamz Fest” I came up with the idea based on what I envisioned. A festival that members of the community can attend that’s family friendly. A safe space for mental health. Which also benefits high school students that attend vocational schools specifically. It’s hard to keep the arts alive in schools sometimes . Art helps people. This festival showcases creatives and raises money for those high school students . The “Rare Dreamz D.D.W scholarship “ . The scholarship and event is named after my friend Diamond Williams who tragically lost her life in 2013. Although I’m the creator of this festival my business partner NaChe Musé helped me bring my vision to life . Along with Jordan Giles who helped with finances for the event .
Ka’Mel, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a Creative from Baltimore, MD and I currently live in GA. I Creative direct and Write for mainly music based projects. My podcast “Love Playz Podcast” is part of The Modern Crwd Conglomerate and an extension of my music . Although I’m in Georgia I still collaborate on projects back home or virtually work with people around the world .
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
My main social media platform is Instagram. Its a funny story it really started as a competition in high school . My 10th grade class had a competition on who could get the most followers up to 1,000 . So I strived to do so and I accomplished that goal . In that process I started to connect with a good audience.
How’d you meet your business partner?
I want to highlight my business partner from my festival NaChé Musé. I met her while I was walking to class in college. She was actually looking for the building I was headed to. We found out we had a lot in common. We had the same mentor and we decided to start working on music together. We then formed a sisterhood and partnership. She is such an amazing person. She’s very talented I can’t wait to see her strive
