We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kameke Payne. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kameke below.
Alright, Kameke thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What was the most important lesson/experience you had in a job that has helped you as a business owner?
As a business owner, one of the things that has been helpful to me is being someone who is always willing to learn new things and improve my skills. This allows me to be seen as an expert in my field while also ensuring that I am not limited in the ways in which I may continue to add value to my professional development as an entrepreneur. As I progressed through my career as an employee, I quickly realized how important it was to continually broaden my skill set and educate myself on as much information as possible so that I would always be able to find work, even when companies went out of business. Because I wanted to be able to grasp a wider range of the work skills within my career field, I realized that I had to be a quick learner in order to master new responsibilities and apply for positions within the company. The knowledge and experience I gathered while working in a variety of roles assisted me in my ability to obtain positions with higher salaries and greater responsibilities. I viewed additional tasks and internal roles as stair climbers, which means that I believed that each time I was assigned a new responsibility, it was in some way helping me prepare for a future role and developing my soft skills.
As a solo proprietor in the resume writing industry, I’ve had to continuously upskill in order to compete and market myself. Since the launch of my business, I’ve learned strategies and techniques that have enabled me to put systems in place, streamline operations, and ultimately grow my business. My commitment to continuous learning is key to my ability to offer my clients high-quality services, stay current on industry trends, and differentiate myself from competitors in the resume-writing industry.
Kameke, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Kameke Payne, and I am the Founder and Chief Resume Writer of The Resume Revive Career Services. I’m a Certified Professional Resume Writer (CPRW) and Career Strategist with experience crafting customized resumes and career documents for clients in a variety of industries. Throughout my career, I have had a variety of jobs in workforce development organizations. These positions have allowed me to get expertise in the field of resolving unemployment-related concerns, including the editing and drafting of resumes for individual customers. As my career advanced and I acquired increasingly significant leadership positions, I realized the importance of a job candidate being well-prepared for an interview and bringing a resume to highlight their skill set prior to the interview. I started writing resumes for friends and family members, and I soon realized that I had a talent for showcasing the value that each person brought to each of their places of employment. It was particularly challenging for them, in my opinion, to articulate how each position relates to the one they are seeking. By giving them a resume that effectively conveys their skill sets, accomplishments, and career overview all in one document, I have been able to help a lot of people with their job search and give them a boost of confidence.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I had no idea how to build a following when I first started using social media, but I was confident in my creativity and storytelling abilities. I started reading articles and watching YouTube videos about social media marketing to develop ideas on gaining more followers. I discovered that including hashtags and images in my content helped me get followers. Commenting and engaging on the posts of my colleagues and other entrepreneurs also helped bring attention to my own page.
In addition, I established days of the week on which I would post certain topics about resume writing and job search to get my followers excited about the content I share and get them to interact with it. If you are just starting out as an entrepreneur, one piece of advice that I can provide you about social media is to make sure that the content you share is consistent and relevant to the industry that you work in. Also, when structuring your social media page, include only content that reflects the industry you are in, and it would be helpful to pick a color scheme that matches your business and fits your brand. Do research on the hashtags that are trending for your subject, and make sure to comment on other people’s posts to increase your exposure and demonstrate that you are an expert on the related topic.
Lastly, if no one ever comments on your postings, continue posting nonetheless. However, when your followers need your services, they will remember you if you are consistent with sharing your content.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
The loyalty of all of my former clients to my brand is something that I take great delight in in regard to my business. When I write resumes for clients, one of the rewards is that it allows me to build relationships with them since I take the time to learn about the obstacles, they have in their job search as well as the professional goals they wish to achieve. One benefit of writing resumes for clients is that it gives me the chance to get to know them better since I take the time to learn about their job search challenges and professional aspirations. My former clients often get in touch with me to update me on their professional lives, informing me when they have been offered jobs and invited to interviews. They are really good at keeping in touch with me and keeping me informed about any successes they have had in their job search. The majority of my business has resulted from repeat clients telling others about their positive experiences with my business and suggesting that others who may benefit from my services
I receive clients’ testimonials regularly, which is a great way for potential new customers to have confidence in the resume-writing services that I provide. On social media, I create content that draws attention to the positive feedback and testimonials provided by customers, which in turn helps me attract new consumers.
I choose to show my appreciation for clients who have purchased from me in the past by offering holiday-themed discounts and consultations for updates throughout the year.
