We were lucky to catch up with Kamau Freeman Jr. recently and have shared our conversation below.

Kamau, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?

It was a natural progression. I realized thousands of people were following me on my social media streams, so I kept creating content about my (baseball) journey. As people started asking for help that let me develop new ideas for videos and posts, and I really knew it when my videos went viral.

Kamau, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

I pitched a pretty good game in San Diego California and felt sick after, so I went to the emergency room. I discovered I had hernias. When I got back to Atlanta, I had surgery and was down a few weeks. While I was bored in bed, I decided to post some high school videos of me pitching. They were trash. I was throwing 50 mph. The videos went viral for me being bad, not good. What sets me apart from others is that I’m not afraid to show my journey and help others in the process. I like to give other athletes information they may not know. I’m proud of all the motivation I have given and lives. I’ve been able to change.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?

My best advice is to be yourself and don’t be afraid to be creative! I literally built my audience starting with baseball players, then athletes from other sports, exercise enthusiast, people who are into nutrition and health… And I just found out lots of baseball moms too.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?

After being cut from three different baseball teams, I’ve had to learn to pivot. I’m still training, and still pitching. I have also learned to add new types of content like nutrition, cooking, and overall health tips.
