Hi Kamara, thanks for joining us today. The first dollar you earn in a new endeavor is always special. We’d love to hear about how you got your first client that wasn’t a friend or family.
It was such a surreal moment, and I still remember it vividly. When I started offering services within my Facebook group, the majority of my early clients were people I already knew—friends, family, or friends-of-friends. But I’ll never forget the day I got my first client who wasn’t connected to me at all.
Someone new had joined my group, and after a few days of engaging with my posts and seeing the testimonials others had shared, they sent me a DM. They introduced themselves, explained their situation, and said, “I’ve been seeing your work, and I think you’re exactly what I need to help me transition careers.”
I remember thinking, Wow, this is it! Someone found me just through the value I’m putting out there. They booked a call, and we connected instantly. By the end of that conversation, they hired me on the spot to rewrite their resume and coach them through their job search.
When I received that first payment notification, I literally did a little happy dance. It wasn’t just about earning money—it was about the validation that my skills and efforts could resonate with complete strangers. That moment gave me the confidence to realize I could truly scale my business beyond my inner circle.
From there, my group became an even more powerful space, and I’ve since helped countless clients who initially found me the same way—through the value I shared and the community I built online.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
“Pivoting During the Pandemic”
When the pandemic hit, I noticed a significant shift in the kinds of opportunities people were seeking. As budgets were cut and industries faced turmoil, many individuals in media found themselves needing to transition into new fields. That’s when I stepped in.
While my expertise was rooted in helping people break into media roles, I quickly recognized the need to pivot myself. I began writing transitional resumes for individuals looking to transfer their skills into new industries. It wasn’t just about writing resumes—it was about helping people see the value of their experiences and reframe their professional narratives in a way that opened new doors.
Over the past four years, I’ve continued to do this work, supporting people in finding opportunities where they may have felt stuck. It’s been incredibly rewarding to help others navigate the challenges of career transitions while growing my own skills in the process.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
“Building My Reputation Through Social Media”
LinkedIn and Facebook have been instrumental in building my reputation within my market. These platforms gave me the space to connect with people, share my expertise, and showcase my work.
One of the biggest factors was the power of testimonials. Clients and colleagues would share their success stories and tag me in posts, which organically boosted my credibility. Whether it was someone landing their dream job after I revamped their resume or a business owner pivoting successfully with my guidance, those testimonials became social proof that spoke louder than any marketing campaign.
Over time, the trust I built through these platforms grew into a network of referrals and long-term relationships. Social media wasn’t just a tool—it became a community that supported my brand and helped me expand my reach in ways I never imagined.
