We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kamara Campbell. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kamara below.
Kamara, appreciate you joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
One of the most meaningful projects that I have just recently done, is directed my first movie “Identity”. Currently while this interview is being done, we are in June which is known for pride month. The movie Identity, which is currently out on Tubi, was made to help the body of Christ understand the lgbtq community more when it comes to witnessing.
While as Christians, we stand on a holy standard, sometimes we don’t really know how to present the Gospel correctly or even as much know how to talk to people correctly who have different views then us.
This project is meaningful because at one point, I was in the lgbtq community and I met many Christians who planted seeds correctly and some that made me want to run away from the church.
Kamara, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Kamara Campbell and I am a daughter of the Most High, a wife, and a mother of 4. I currently now own 2 business, Exodus 12 Productions and Stepping Into Proverbs. Exodus 12 Productions LLC officially launched on July 7, 2019.
Before becoming an official business for Exodus, I started dabbling in photography when then led me into videography. I started creating videos for friends for their business, music videos, and then eventually I started to do short films on my own.
One thing I would want people to know and understand is the reason behind the name, Exodus 12 Productions. In the book of Exodus, chapter 12 we come across how the children of Israel is currently leaving out of the bondage of Egypt and walking towards freedom with God. The videos I make whether a short film, movie, a music video etc, the message behind it has to carry weight in helping s0meone leave a life of bondage and finding freedom in Christ.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
I think the most that people can do for artist is to SHARE THEIR WORK. Even if you didn’t like their music or video, someone else will like it. Many times as creatives we think people have seen our work and in reality they didn’t even know it existed, because not everyone is on social media or keep up to date with what you are doing.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Interestingly, the main resources that definitely made an impact in my creative thinking is following “The Winlos”, and “Fejosbaba tv” on YouTube.
Even though they are Nigerians filming in Africa, I love the way they make sure to not create surface “Christian films” that don’t speak about much, but get to the root of spiritual matters, spiritual warfare and showcase the truth in a creative way. The way they bring the spiritual realm to life makes me want to push even further in that area to showcase it here in America.
